There is no such thing as purely objective observation. All observation is subjective; it is always guided by the observer's expectations or desires.

Is all observation subjective because it is always guided by he observer's expectation or desires, as the speaker asserts above? In my point of view, all observation include to factors: the phenomenon that enable people to observe and the results of the observation. For the former factor, it is always objective in any situation, while for the latter; it is always subjective due to the observer's expectation or desires to some extend.

It is always true that all the phenomena are objective, and this could not be changed by whether we observe them or not, and even there was no human being in the world in the ancient time, this situation can also not be changed. Trees would grow as they were; birds would fly as they were, and fish would swim in the water as they were. All of these cannot change in any situation. In a word, the phenomena are always objective no matter we observe them or not.

However, when it turns to the results of the observation, the situation might changed a lot and it is always that the results of the observations are usually influenced by the observer’s expectations or desires for the reason that in the process of the observation the observer should get sufficient information from the phenomena they want to know and then make some analysis so as to get the results of the observation. During this process, there will be many uncertain factors related to the observer’s background, which might lead to that different people will draw different results form the same phenomena. For example, if there is a famous artwork in exhibiting, then it might be that some painters find its aesthetic value, and some businessmen just think what is the price of it. When it turns to the material experts they may think of that what does this artwork make of.

Not only people with different career background may draw different conclusion from the same phenomena, even for the people with the same career, they might get different results from the same things for the reason that they have different interests from different result and they want to get these results which could benefit them. For example, recently some scientist declared that they have found the 10th big planets in the solar system since the founded new plant were bigger than the accepted 9th planet, the Plot. But most of the other scientists tend to hold the point that this new planet could not list in the family of the big planets in solar system for the reason that it was once a mistake to list the Plot in the family and they do not want to repeat this kind of mistake any more. From this we could find that, with the different interests, different scientists hold the different view of this new planet. And if the case it that it is these protesters discovered the planet, it might be that they also will think that it is another big planet in the solar system.

To sum up, when we consider whether the observations are objective or subjective, we must base on a case-by-case analysis.
