提纲：
1.        Tradition refers to the beliefs, values, customs, way of life, crafts, which are handed down from generation to generation in a society Much traditional wisdom is still relevant and can inspire us to search for solutions to present problems.
2.        Modernization refers to the process of urbanization and democratization, or in a large sense, westernization.
3.         The correct way to modernize a culture is to transform its tradition rather than to uproot its tradition.
Everyone live in the modern society, to some degree, is guided by traditional ideas which are pasted from ancestors. Meanwhile, modernization brought by the advancement of high technology change people’s daily life in so many aspects. And the shock to tradition from modernization is too huge to neglect. From observation of the whole world, however, people are living a modernized life of ease and comfortable with traditional thoughts. Absence of tradition or modernization would lead a deformity in today’s life.

While the question: “what is tradition?” come to my mind, myriads words float before my eyes, such as, respecting the old and loving children, pursuing the success by own oneself, spring festival and so forth. Thus it can be seen that, tradition refers to the beliefs, values, customs, way of life, crafts, which is handed down from generation to generation. Through hundreds, or even thousands years, theses information and concept instituted by forebear have taken deeper roots in the mind of offspring. Further more, the traditional conception and ceremony nearly all advocate solidarity, friendship and mutually helping, which are virtues of human being. And all of above are indispensable factors in harmonious life, no matter in the past or present.

And then, what does the modernization look like? Writing letter in the replacement of E-mail, automobiles instead of horse riding, shopping on the internet take place of usual mode, which are the implications of it. In this instance, modernization defines as the process of urbanization, or in a large sense, westernization. These progresses indeed make people’s life much more convenient than previous time which is dominated by traditional way. On the other hand, modernization is regarded as a course of democratization. For example, new law is made to meet the requirements of humanization and adapt to the new situation never occurred before. It is obvious that modernization result in saving time and energy, yielding more human rights. To accept modernization, individuals could well manage themselves in work and everyday life.

In the final analysis, the areas of society modernization involved are so various and numerous that seem to uproot the tradition. Nevertheless, tradition cannot be eliminated by modernization. In respect that, in most cases, modernization is the innovation which base on traditional ideas. Even the modernization would be impeded if the modernistic behavior against some wonderful essences of tradition. Hence, everybody could transform the tradition, and change it to satisfy the modern life without losing its merits. At the same time, maintaining tradition for tradition’s sake is thought to be harmful to the progress and development of society.

In conclusion, to better deal with current problems nowadays, people need to keep traditional ideas in mind and use modern tools which both are helpful to search the solutions of them. In this view of point, tradition and modernization could not be mutual exclusive but complementary. The significant point is to keep balance between tradition and modernization rather than absolutely choosing one of them.
