"It is the artist, not the critic,* who gives society something of lasting value."  *a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.

There is a hot debate between two groups: one group insists that it should be the artist who gives society a lasting value, while the other group rejects it and persists that the critic contributes to the society's lasting value. In my view, although critic has a significant value in some perspectives, the artist itself consists the lasting value.

The most crucial reason for my statement is that art is the base of criticism, without which no critic can lend criticism to. When we mention a harsh critic help us understand the works more deeply, we take it for granted that the critic coexist with the artist. Definitely, the relationship between critic and artist is like that of fish and water, without the  former one, the later can not survive in that name. It is easy to imagine that the so-call critic investigates into works of some artists and show their own opinions with relevant  knowledge. Some critics themselves are artists but they prefer to taking critic as a job rather than artist. Their professional background should be admired, nevertheless, they do not play significant roles as artist for they do not create works originally.

Another major reason is that artists contribute to the spiritual world of human beings and lift up our spirit. No matter how much contribution the critics make, they only extend the meaning of the original works. It is the art that enhances people's well-being of spirit. For a specific example, when we read the great books written by Mark Twin, we  are deeply impressed by his humor as well as his special capacity to reveal the social phenomenon indirectly. We are thinking when we are reading, which full our minds and our spare lives. When we listen to a symphony composed by Beethoven, we might fall in the  ideal environment and exert our infinite imagination to represent the described atmosphere in our mind and soul. Through this process, we enjoy ourselves definitely. When we appreciate a painting by an impressive actor, we try our best to gain the likely meaning the artist. want to express. All in all, artists lead us to the spiritual world and guide us to recognize ourselves and introspect our behaviors.

Before I draw a conclusion, I should point that the critic is crucial for it can exhibit the flaws and drawbacks of the artist, as a result, we can appreciate the art extensively and thoroughly. Admittedly, critic provides us more angles to enjoy a works. Assisted by critic, we will pay more attention to works which suffers the hardest criticism, we might judge the  art in our own view inspired by critic, we would also try to show our own view as a result. Critic make us think more and think more deeply.

To summarize, the artic create the works which can hold on from one generation to another, offer us with what can be appreciated as well as be criticized. Arts impact on our spiritual lives, and inspire various thoughts include criticism. No one would deny arts' ever-lasting influence on society.

Their professional background should be admired, nevertheless, they do not play significant roles as artist (改成复数才对) for they do not create works originally. （此段阐明两者关系）

When we listen to （欣赏音乐are enjoying） a symphony composed by Beethoven, we might （may） fall in (into) the  ideal environment and exert our infinite imagination to represent(feel) the described atmosphere (我改成了fantastical atmosphere，以形容美妙的境界) in our mind and soul. Through this (改成such a) process, we enjoy ourselves definitely（是不是可以换一种别的写法，感觉有点像自慰？！）. When we appreciate （are appreciating ）a painting by an impressive actor(男演员怎么画画啊？？？) , we try our best to gain the likely meaning（掉了of） the artist want to express. All in all, artists lead us to the spiritual world and guide us to recognize ourselves and introspect our behaviors.(这个结尾用it is 强调句型要好些) （此段举例说明艺术家的重要性）

Critic make us think more and think more deeply（这句话有点重复把，think further and deeper 感觉就够了）. （让步，评论家作用不可忽略）

To summarize, the artic create the works which can hold on （传承是用hand down吧？）from one generation to another, offer（语法！一句话两个谓语！改成offering） us with what can be appreciated as well as be criticized. Arts impact on our spiritual lives, and inspire various thoughts include criticism. No one would deny arts' ever-lasting influence on society. (感觉结尾的开头应该重提一下艺术家与评论家的关系更好)
