题目:The absence of choice is a circumstance that is very very rare.
拍我的人留下你的文章我必回拍!
令问下:第一个绕地球航海1周,穿过太平洋,好望角回到欧洲的水手叫什么名字啊?
-----------------------------------
Is the absence of choice a circumstance very rare, or is it commonly exists in our world?
Although it is apparently true that we have many choices in our lives, a deeper understanding of the world could tell us that sometimes this is not the truth.
The statement should be qualified in that in today's society we do seem to have various choices to lead our lives. With the development of science and technology, as well as the improvements of democracy of the social aspects, we are enjoying more freedom than ever. The society can now offer more types of jobs, providing us the chances to play almost any role as we wish: drivers, engineers, business analysts, artists, musicians and so on. By taking proper trainings in a professional school or university, we can theoretically pursue any career that we are interested in. Moreover, the culture of our people is changing, from strictness to tolerance. In the medieval no one could imagine choosing a career freely. Instead, they were born with a destined fate. Due to cultural restrictions, anyone who tried to fight against his fate was regarded as a form of defiance to the deity and rebellion. In contrast, nowadays everyone can study the major he likes.
However the foci would be too narrow if we fail to take a deeper look into this matter. I find two reasons for this issue. First, although we have many choices to live our lives, it may seem absurd to realize that we are unable to choose our birth and death. The beginning and ending of life is a destined path, which can never be altered by our wishes. Therefore birth and death is completely irrelevant process to our wills. The fact alone indicates that we do not always have various choices all the time. Second, no one could predict the future. Looking back to our decisions in the past, almost any choice--however liberal and rational it seems when making the decision--is a choice fulfilled with coerce, destined by all of the existing factors at that time. As an individual in the society, everyone is under tight control of the environment around. When making a choice, he would choose the one that best suits his needs. However he could always realize that it was the only choice for him at that time, otherwise he would presently be immersed in a dire mire. A student excellent in numerology may have to pursue the career as a lawyer, sacrificing the excitement of exploring the unknown for a high salary. A politician may have to choose concession to keep his chair in the parliament. Therefore the circumstance of absent choice is very often, instead of rare.
Life is merely a process in which we enjoy laughs, or cry for the sadness-- a kind of experience. Admit it or not, each person's life is more or less destined when born, by the economical environment and society situation. It is unnecessary to fight against fate. Recalling every piece of experience when old, we would cherish everything we enjoy or we grieve. The ideal life is to give up enmity and hatred, excitement and sadness, and live with leisure.
In the final analysis, I disagree with the speaker that the absence of choice is a rare circumstance. Instead, it is very common in our society. Many of the choices we made are in fact the only choice we have.
