94"Universities should require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study because acquiring knowledge of various academic disciplines is the best way to become truly educated."

Nowadays, the pressure of job-seeking is facing more and more university students. Although someone might not want to admit that, but they are really going to the universities in order to find better jobs. Some students are sick of the compulsory courses which outside their academic field and think they take up too much of their times. As far as I am concerned, although taking too much courses could make one distracted, it is necessary to take courses outside the student's major field.

In the first place, admittedly, university should prevent the students from become dilettantes. To become a generalist like Da Vinci who not only created masterpieces like Mona Lisa but also invented the helicopters is a dream for every student. However, with today's highly competitive job market and complicated knowledge, it is impossible for every student to become a master in all areas. Taking too much courses could distract them from the learning of major courses and prevent them from becoming an expert to meet the needs of the society. A student who dabbles in every area without further learning could become a dilettante. After all, the aim of higher education should be provide the society with future citizens who are professional in their own areas and could better function in the society.

However, taking courses outside the student's field of study is really necessary because it not only helps us to perform better in our own majors, but also makes us more adaptive to this fast-paced world. In today's interdisciplinary world, no discipline is isolated from others. It is hard to imagine a computer science student without the knowledge of mathematics or an archeologists without the knowledge of chemistry. Tasks are more and more complicated for us now, knowledge in one field in far from enough for us to perform them. On the other hand, taking courses outside their own academic field could make the students become more adaptive to the future world. Different disciplines have different ways of solving problems as well as different perspectives of treating the world. Learning courses in different areas, the students could solve problems in different ways according to the real situations which makes them more adaptive to this even changing world. Therefore, a proper amount of courses outside one's academic field is beneficial and necessary.

In sum, although too much courses outside the students' fields could distract them from concentrating on their major courses, a proper amount of such kind of courses is not only beneficial but also necessary. It is the duty of the universities to build up a wholesome education system for the students to become both professional in their own field and adaptable to this ever changing society.

In the first place, admittedly, university should prevent the students from become dilettantes(好词!) . To become a generalist like Da Vinci who not only created masterpieces like Mona Lisa but also invented the helicopters is a dream for every student. However, with today's highly competitive job market and complicated knowledge, it is impossible for every student to become a master in all areas. (感觉你要把这个题目完全转化成通才和专才的题目,不失为一个办法)Taking too much courses could distract them from the learning of major courses and prevent them from becoming an expert to meet the needs of the society. A student who dabbles(你的词表背得也不错啊,不知道笔考准备得怎么样了) in every area without further learning could become a dilettante. After all, the aim of higher education should be provide the society with future citizens who are professional in their own areas and could better function in the society.

:lol:lol
If you think English is easy, take GRE
If you think math is easy, take wavelet
If you think life is easy, take a girlfriend
