It is always an individual who is the impetus for innovation; the details may be worked out by a team, but true innovation results from the enterprise and unique perception of an individual.
Does true innovation result from the enterprise and unique perception of an individual rather than a team?[rather than 前后不匹配] The speaker claims so, for the reason that it is always an individual who is the impetus for innovation.[这句罗嗦,改] Although the influence of a team as a whole should be taken into consideration, I fundamentally agree with this statement, and I would like to give my evidences[reasons] as bellow.
First of all, real innovative and creative thoughts or opinions often exist in the minds of only a few individuals, who are anxious to apply their innovation to practice. Individuals who have rich experience and profound knowledge are rare in a team, while most of the members are just ordinary people. Due to the enterprise and unique perception of a few individuals, they are more likely to dip into the essence of a problem, and form their feasible, innovative and creative ways of solving it. As a matter of fact, it is their wisdom over ordinary ones that pushes the team towards revolutionary innovation. Without their leadership in intelligence, the team would not go any further. The story of Gandhi is a good case in point. He once inhabited in several western countries, where he was well educated and formed his view of point towards liberation and violence. On his return to India, he led the non-violence campaign against the oppression from England, and finally succeeded. If there was no such a person in India, the liberation of this country may be slowed down for several years.
The second reason I would like to point out is that it is individual independence that results in advance of a whole team against the conventional trends in the team itself. Almost anyone has a inclination to agree with others, while only a few think, criticize and act depending on themselves. Although alone sometimes, they are the impetus for innovation indeed. As we know, arguing with the majority of members in a team is really an unpleasant matter, however, total agreement with the mainstream trend would simply lead to no innovation. It is the responsibilities of few individuals who could think and act depending on themselves to take risk in offending most of others in the process of advancement. If they yield to conventional thoughts anyway, it would be where the innovation stopped. As the saying goes, the truth is often under control of the minority. The independence and persistence of these minorities really make sense.
重点要论述为什么“total agreement with the mainstream trend would simply lead to no innovation.”
Although several individuals play a significant role in true innovation, I concede that this innovation would not go long without the support and encouragement from the team. As for an individual, his or her opinions are often focused within a narrow scope without taking everything into account, which may bring harm to the team in some unexpected aspects. On the contrary, every member in a team comes from different backgrounds with different thoughts. They can make contributions to the team by providing their ideas from different aspects, which are likely to stimulate inspirations of other members, even those who are considered leaders. The best approach to innovation is to combine efforts of a few individuals with the wisdom from all members in a team. The brainstorm, which was brought about in management, serves as a good means for such a purpose. Every member is required to claim his or her own thoughts in an open-minded meeting, no matter his or her opinions are right or wrong. Such a lively atmosphere for any member to take part in the discussion would contribute much to the innovative ideas in the end, which make true innovation more accessible.
To sum up, true innovation is more likely to achieve when the enterprise and unique perception of an individual can be emphasized on without overlooking support from the team.
