The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.

Who will determine the greatness of individuals? The contemporaries, who value the worth of the individuals from the perspectives, based on their times or the successors those who view the significance with different visions, maybe broader and more insightful than before? In my opinion, it takes time, even decades, for the significance of an individual's achievements to be fully demonstrated and understood, therefore, those who live after their times better evaluate the greatness of the individuals than their contemporaries in various fields, namely the science, arts , literature and economics.

In the realm of science, the scientific theories come to fully realized only after it has been tested by the experiments and proved to be true. The process of establishing theories is composed of three stages: to discover the problem, to put up a hypothesis and to experiment the hypothesis. The last stage is the most essential one to prove the theory truth, and at the same time it is the obstacle for the times when there was no proper experimental facilities to justify whether the theory is right or wrong. In the medieval times, it is the religious belief rather than the scientific truth was in charge of the social thinking due to the low level of the science. Bruno claimed that the universe is infinite and the sun is the centre of the universe, contradicted with common belief that the earth was the centre of the universe. Lack of sufficient evidence and modern facilitates notably the high resolution telescope; Bruno cannot persuade the public to realize his theory, regardless of a long period imprisonment and death sentence eventually. Those misunderstanding will not happen as the result of the Harbor universal telescope with which people can clearly identify that the earth is not in the centre of the universe.

When it comes to arts and literature, some art works, too obscure for their contemporary people to understand them, require time assigned for people to comprehend the ideas hidden behind the art works and books. Monet's famous work "Impression: Sunrise" was not understood initially, since it seems peculiar for a large amount of blue was used as the major color for sunlight. When it was first displayed in the New York, the satire words flooded into him. However, the comprehensive capability and appreciation angle change with the elapse of the time. In this circumstance, this work eventually earned its reputation and had led to the name for impressionism.

Moreover, in the realm of economics, the greatness of th economists will not be fully recognized unless the economic theory he/she put forwards has endured the test of times and solved the economic crisis and turned out to be beneficial to the economic development. One needs look no further than the example of the John Maynard Keynes, the British economist. His magnum opus, The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money challenged the economic paradigm when published in 1936. The public who was influence by the theory of Classic Economics suspected the rightness of the book. Not until in the Great Depression, it is fully approved by its application in the U.S President Roosevelt’s New Deal which plunged the America from the marsh of the economic crisis namely the Great Depression. Nowadays, the public regards Keynes as the father of macroeconomics, initiating a whole new economic ideological trend.
In conclusion, the limits of the experiment facilities and understanding blind the contemporaries from finding the evidence and grasping the essence of the greatness of individuals. Furthermore, the lag between the theory establishing and its function bringing into play prevent the contemporaries from realizing the effectiveness of the theory . All these factors whether external ones or internal ones determine that it is the successors rather than the contemporaries decide the greatness of individuals better.

观点鲜明, 我今天就考它了, 也是用分类的写法. 但我写的是两面派, 将科学分成理论科学(后代)和实验科学(当代),还有商业(当代), 政治(后代). 对于这类论题我一般认为两方面都写比较能够展示思维的深度, 构造上面也比较容易转弯,不用一直走下去, 这样文章的布局和结构及其句式会好一点.
