————正文—————
With the very advent of mass media, people can find whatever they want to know-news, sports, weather report s, speeches and so on. Scandals, among the multifarious information, sometimes do have certain merits in attracting the attention of the public on those unrevealing events and problems in ways that no speaker or reformer could. However, there are some meaningless scandals only to cater for certain people's own curiosities.
To begin with, scandals always expose the unrevealing problems in many kinds of areas, such as politics, sports and so forth. Theses problems usually violate the normal moral or principle, and people do have certain nature to be curious about those things offending established rules. Therefore scandals can attract our attention and bring about some significant influences on the social level. [analysis is good! ] In academia, for example, once there was a famous professor in Peking University, who made illegal copies of ["plagiarize" may be fitter]someone else's papers. This kind of immoral behavior attracted the attention of most people, especially those doing scientific researches. It also increased the degree of scrutiny into academic papers. And also in sports area, people keep taking strict and new measures to eliminate drug scandals. Any occurrence of a drug scandal in a most important Games would certainly captivate [this word may be not fit, according to CB] the whole world's attention, and then worldwide actions will be taken to handle it. While these effects would be quite difficult for most speakers or reformers to achieve, because it is a pragmatic problem for them to acquire most people's whole attention in a short time.
Nevertheless, scandals could have negative effects when they only concentrate on some meaningless things, and actually they are wasting money and time. For example, the scandal between Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky is only the privacy of the former president. It is unreasonable and unwise to spend large amount of money on unduly probing into and publicize it. There are many more urgent and important problems, for instance, drug abuse, environment pollution, poverty and so on, needing addressed with the money. Therefore, when it comes to better benefiting people's life, those scandals just revealing meaningless problems would be little use [useful ]. Under this kind of circumstance, a speaker or reformer can be useful in take people's attention to the practical problems. [the last sentence is abrupt to some extent]
In addition, there are also some scandals just fabricated to attract public's attention, and they have no real merits in promoting the society. Consider the amusement stars, who usually concoct some scandals to acquire more attention. And certain scandals even provide false information to defraud people with the purpose of achieving some advantages. Actually people have already been tired of the endless meaningless scandals.[this last sentence is also a little abrupt in my opinion]
In sum, scandals can reveal many unusual problems violating the normal rules, making people know more about the society and then promoting human's progress [too exaggerative] . In this way speakers or reformers have little avail to achieve the same effect. However, there also are certain scandals with little meaning. They make no sense with the improvement of the society, only meaningless information to cater for someone's personal curiosities.
the sentence structure "there be" is frequently used in this article.
both the examples and construction of this article are good!
