issue87"In any field of inquiry, the beginner is more likely than the expert to make important discoveries."
The arguer asserts that in any field of inquiry, compared with experts, there are more possibilities for beginners to make important discoveries. Considering all the factors lead to the success of making a discovery, I tend to agree that no matter who he is, acute observation, sufficient knowledge, courage of innovation are the crucial characters for him in the process of searching.
To begin with, a successful discoverer should have the ability of observing normal or fantastic things. Numerous phenomena and changes occurred everywhere and everyday, if a person want to probe the principle of the nature, acute observation is an primary quality. Sun raise and down everyday, only the person who is good at detecting can ponder why it happened. Apples always fall from the trees, only Newton sum up the law of gravity. Rearmost can fly in the dark, only few people noticed that and invent the radar. Compared the huge number of experts or beginners with the limited great discoveries in every field, it is easy to come to the conclusion that no matter experts or beginners, who own the ability of observing phenomena can have more chances to make important discoveries.
In the second places, experts or beginners who want to make important discoveries should be erudite in this area. It is not hard for a person to see a phenomenon or has the consciousness of why it happened. To organize the whole theory to describe or sum up it is an outstanding contribution. Maybe lots of people see apples fall from the trees and think about why that occurred, but they did not hold abundant theories to build the law of gravity. Knowledge is the foundation to make a completely system of one’s thinking. Without enough knowledge, it is hard for a person to make an integrated discovery.
Another crucial character for a person in the process of discovery is the courage of persisting in his own theory. Usually before a person can make big progress, he has to undergo an anguished period. If he did not insist on his own faith, he may give up when he did not achieve the accomplishment. From other aspects, it is possible that when a new theory was put forward for the first time, a lot of disagreements may come from different people even the authorities. Facing these critiques whether he can persevere his idea to the end is a challenge.
In conclusion, it is not important that whether he is an expert or a beginner. The person who own the merits of acute observation, sufficient knowledge, courage of innovation may have more opportunities to make an important discovery. |
