With the enhanced outturn of education and inspiration from the rationale, few of us can deny the education designed to meet the individuals' preference can be effective both on the level of society and individual.

However, I cast doubt on the speaker's assertion in two aspects. In the concern with the didactic function of education, lies the first reason why I disagree with the speaker. One of the most fundamental functions of education is to lift human beings spirit and prepare them for better citizens. Through education, various principles--such as faithfulness, fortitude and so forth--are preserved and passed down from generation to generation. If we overstate the need of catering to the interest of individuals, we actually risk defeating the fundamental function in education--that is to preserve our value system. In this matter, no matter what is an individual's preference, he or she must be involved in such curriculum.

Another reason of contention with the speaker is that certain elementary discipline serves to provide a understratum for further advancement in one's academic career and facilitate the study in certain majors. Even recognizing the need of reform education into an individual-centered one, the importance of such elementary curriculum cannot be underestimated in the process of education. For example, the master of languages helps to communicate with others and then allows an exchange of mind; the study of mathematics promises one an insightful perspective and improves logical analysis. Such disciplines can never excluded from the curriculum of any education, for without the help of such common content of education, which has nothing to do with the need or interests of individuals, the further education catering such preference prove itself no more than an utopia.

In final analysis, I agree with the speakers' assertion for the proposed education can better improve the morale of students and benefit our society through expertise. The author, however, can never underestimate the importance didactics and certain elementary disciplines, otherwise we risk undermining the moral function of education and giving up opportunity for further study.
