After The Jazz Singer in 1927, “talkies” became more and more commonplace and within a decade silent films essentially disappeared. Considering modern films, the three-dimensional films and the computer-generated special effects are incredible two decades before. The changes in filmmaking are the sign and result of the technology development, which will provide our descendants information to study the technology in our era.

The works of art express the artists’ ideas and concepts which may have profound effects throughout the ages. Many literature works, such as “Gone with the wind”, “War and Peace”, effect people’s ideas all around the world. In modern-day we can see many of styles of ancient Greek statues are reproduced and copied to decorate parks and hotels, showing people’ favors and respect for the Greek sculptures. These works, which reflect history memories, human thoughts, give the society lasting value for they can be passed down from generation to generation.

When we need artists to create wonderful works of art, the critics are also needed. On one hand, critics are required to evaluate the works. The evaluation can help and promote the artists to do better in their field, such as the operation of Cannes Film Festival. On the other hand, the public may find it difficult to understand some of the art works for some works are abstract. With the critics’ introduction and evaluation, the art works could be accepted and widespread in the public more easily, which will advance the spread of art.

In conclusion, the artists bring the society lasting value by creating works of art. The critics are complementary to the artists in evaluating and popularizing their works.
