11.2 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Parents are the best teachers. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.


It is wildly acknowledged that a broad conception of education for the youth involves the active participation of parents, educational institutions and the whole society as well. Obviously, they play different roles in kids' education. When it comes to the question of who are the best teachers among the three, opinions vary from person to person. Personally, I believe that parents are the best teachers.

The pivotal role of parents in children's education lies in the fact that parents teach us to explore our emotion. An effective emotion education by our parents invite us to express and control our feelings, to reflect on our own sources of identity and values, and to engage with challenging ethical, moral, and human dilemmas.

Before we obtain knowledge from formal education, we are tendered with love and care by our parents. Perhaps everybody have an impression, clear or obscure, that our parents told us how to be a son/daughter, how to get along with our siblings and so on. Even when we grow up into young adults and receive higher education, we still turn to our parents for their advice whenever we encounter problems about love or marriage, since they know us most and they have once experienced those issues. In other words, in terms of emotional exploration, we take our parents as our role model, and we also learn from their valuable experience.

Without desirable parental education, children may well be mentally unhealthy. It is often observed that kids from single-parent families are selfish and always tend to misbehave, and that kids with family violence tend to be indifferent and aggressive. That is because they are not offered good guidance with their emotion, and parents can act as their teacher in their behavior.

In conclusion, parents are credited for our emotional development. Whether we are little kids at the preschool level or young adults at higher education level, parents are the best teachers.
