The artist provides us with a large number of artistic treasures for and nourishes our mental world. In spite of that, I strongly agree believe that it is the critic that gives society valuable things, instead of the artist.

Due to the critic's great effort, we were able to appreciate wonderful art works with lasting value such an wisdom,sympath,love.but the question is how many of us could really appreciate these incredible works such as novels, films, paintings and so forth? Not everyone is able to grasp the really meaning of the wonderful art works. A lot of training and the sensitivity to the world surround us, which is lack in most of us is strongly required. Except a few experts on art, most ordinary people know little about the art. It’s common that in most cases we may aware that he/she is a great artist, which is told by the critics, but we have no idea why she is so great and why her great work is famous. Then consider the fact that art cognition of common people is very limited and superficial; critics are called for to interpret the value of the art work to us.

Although some people may acclaim that masterpiece are made by artists, not critics. Therefore, artists are the one who gives society something of lasting value. However, we have to admit that lacking of necessary knowledge; common people have little understanding of the art. Critics, with their expertise, struggle in searching for work of real value among numerous art works and finally reveal the greatest masterpiece to the world. Without those great critics, the greatness of a large mount of art work may remain uncovered, thus many talented artist or work may slip away from our hand. As clearing sands and finding gold, critics bring us to the world of lasting value: courage, love, sympathy, wisdom and so on.

Admittedly, some artists, unknown to his or her contemporary such as van Gogh, Bach, and Jane Austen are finally recognized by people. Some people may argue that the critics on their contemporary failed to point them out, and But we should notice that it's also the critics who appreciate them, savor them and discuss their great works, even though the artists who make them are gong. It's also the critics who find their appreciate their lasting value to the society and try to make them accepted by the mass. Without critics, great artists won't have lasting fame and give society something of lasting value.

In conclusion, while discussing art and artists, we should never forget the efforts that critics made that enable us to realize and enjoy the beauty and spirit of great art works.

个人感觉这个题目驳论不是很好写，楼主很不容易啊。主要的遗憾之处就是文章没有给出足够例子来支持你的观点，让人感觉有些缺乏说服力。可以举个具体的例子来说明大众怎样忽略了一个艺术家，而批评家又怎样发现了他并让他得到应有的尊重。虽然我也想不出具体人名来。:p
另外指艺术品时还是用works.
