I strongly disagree with the assertion that artists should pay little attention to their critics, for the undeniable significance of criticism lies in the instructive suggestions, made by the critics, to the healthy development and prosperity of arts. What’s more, I hold the opposite opinion with the speaker who alleges criticism tends to undermine and constrain the artist’s creativity, based on the knowledge of the definition and content of criticism, the existed various response made by the artists towards criticism, as well as the known origin of creativity and inspiration.

Through criticism, the proper direction of the growth of arts is assured, by promoting the level of mass aesthetic appreciation as well as setting up a healthy environment for art creation.This year is the 30th anniversary for Chinese reformation. Recall the criticism before that period, through comparison, we can figure out easily the undeniable influence put on the maturity of movies, literature, drama, further more, the social life, emancipation of mind as well as the epoch-making reformation. Critics say Nan Fan, Xie Yonshun, holding fast to the standard of evaluation arts, including the ideological content and aesthetic value, have exerted their efforts to live up the purpose of releasing of excellent pieces and containing the unhealthy artistic phenomenon since 1979. This example tells us that undeniable value of criticism owns to the assurance of healthy growth and prosperity of the arts by informing the public the essence and dregs of arts.

What’s more, I hold the opposite opinion with the speaker upon whether the criticism tends to undermine and constrain the artist's creativity. Consider first the definition and content of criticism. There exist both positive and negative opinions towards a piece of arts in the process of evaluation and analysis, instead of understanding criticism in the common way which often neglect the compliment and praise of a piece of work.


A convincing typical example is the support offered by V.G. Belinskiy, a well known Russian critic in 17th century, to Nikolai Gogol when he suffered in the severe attack by hack writers. Belinskiy acknowledged Gogol as a writer beyond Zeitgeist, so that the real value of Gogol’s works began to call up the public’s awareness. To some extend, the positive comments made by Belinskiy encourage the continuous creation of Gogol which is an important chapter in the Russian art history. At this point of view, criticism doesn’t undermine and contain the artists’ creativity, but right the opposite.

Criticism and creation is always a pair of contradiction, the struggle and collide between each other never ceased. As far as I am concerned, the conflict in between is a potential motivation to provoke the creativity of artists and the whole prosperity of arts. Remembering the written polemics between Lu Xun and Liang Qiushi, Lu’s essay is with severe lethality towards others, and during the same time, Liang’s harsh and acrid comments attacked Lu’s works. Though the personal relationship is not so harmonious, the creativity of both is totally embodied in their creations which are compiled in the Chinese literature history.In addition, the response made and attitudes adopted by the artists towards criticism also count in the influence of criticism. And in my opinion, the origin of creativity raises from a broad basis, say needs, joys, affections, etc., not confined in the retrospection and reevaluation of previous work after being evaluated by critics.

In sum, we can’t deny the great value of criticism, so that we shouldn’t pay little attention to it. And the criticism, both negative and positive, is a provocation of the creativity of artists. What helps is to adopt the proper attitudes towards criticism and take advantage of it, so that we can reach a culmination of arts creation.

唯一的感觉就是有的句子有点长呢，要是再插一点简单句可能会好一点吧。

还有一个问题，你举的那两个例子，我都不知道，给解释一下呗。

第一个例子是关于别林斯基  V.G. Belinskiy（1811-1848），他是俄国革命民主主义者、哲学家、文学评论家。他驳斥了一些御用文人对果戈理的所谓“丑化政府官吏”的攻击，高度地评价了果戈理是一位“更高于时代精神”的作家，给予果戈理的创作的极大的支持。

第二个例子是关于鲁迅和梁秋实的笔战...在文学立场上的一直持有分歧，好勇斗胜互不认输，个人关系一直很僵，但是二人的纠结史却对文学的繁荣做了很大贡献。
