Modern society has provided us a more convenient way of life. With the rapid progress happening besides, do we enjoy our lives better or worse than ever before? In my opinion, we enjoy a more colorful and meaningful lives at the cost of disturbing the nature and polluted environment.

The modern technology has improved our lives to an unimaginable convenient state. Some history dreams have been realized in our generation. For example, in the past only some brave ones could dream to fly in the sky or even take a travel above the heaven, few people could talk with someone far away and sending a message would take a long time. At present, all of these above have been common to us, except travel to the out space, which cost too much. Nowadays, we enjoy much more ways of entertainments and much more kinds of food even than the king in history. Once there was a queen like to eat litchis, a kind of fruit in south China. The king had to prepare a special army to transport some from the origin. In fact, this kind of delicious fruit are sold in nearly every market in China now. We are enjoying much more developed medical care, advanced education, convenient transportation, and immediate communication and so on. In a word, life becomes much more convenient for us.

On the contrast, people are more eager to review the scenery that used to be very common in the past. Green hills, clean rivers, smart fishes, running animals, flying birds, fresh air and even blue sky are all very attractable to us. We have developed economic, developed technology and developed cities, but we have lost a lot. Developing and polluting seems to be the double sides of a coin. Nobody can get one without taking the other. It is particularly true in China. In the areas that are a bit developed, the building step of the cities has occupy the limited space of nature. Fewer and fewer green trees can be seen in the cities, replaced by buildings and roads. Noise fulfills the city. No clean river can be found in the cities even in the villages around them. Many people fall ill easily because of pollution. Many citizens are fond of trip, whose main aim is to enjoy the fresh air and clean water. In fact, these kinds of basic needs in everyday life turn to be more and more precious day by day.

To sum up, development of the society has changed us a lot. We cannot simply define our lives are more enjoyable or not. What we can do is to make our lives better and better.
