using fire to fight with fire is one of strategies for a long time, but many people doubt it. the professor holds the view that people's doubt is un-valid for the certain reasons.
first, the passage states that instead of prescirbed fire we should use disking to fight with wildfire,because prescirbed fire play role in the rising global warming and air pollution. However, the professor points out that there are so many benefits by using prescribed fire that disking method cannot reach by it self. for instance, in those area with slow decay speed, prescribed fire can burn those up make sufficient nutrition for plants. Beside that, prescribed fire can thin the forest floor which allow sunlight penetrate the soil to warm the water and earth. Then, prescribed fire greatly reduce the hazard of wildfire.
second, the reading essay also raises its concern about the safety of using prescirbed fire since there are so many what-ifs and unexpected dangers when people use prescribed fire. however, this seemly reasonable argument soon collapses after the professor's solution: the prescribed fire have been executed for a long time and it shows very safe. this task is under strick control and executed by well-trained workers. they know when, where and under what limit to use prescribed fire.
third, simply to offset the passage's anxiety that this method costs too much, the professor make an outward and hoenst statement that compared with the enormous loss of wild fire, the prescribed fire cost relative small.
in sum, the prescribed fire is an effective and economic mean to fight wildfire.
