In the lessening, the professor illustrates three theoriesto talk about the usage of the" great house" of settlements of ChacoCanyon, which are opposite to the ideas of the reading passage.

In the first place, the lecturer clams that the primaryfunctions of the "great house" could not be residential. On the otherhand, the author states that the Chaco houses are strongly similar to thelarge, famous "apartment buildings" at Taos, where a lot of peoplehave been living for a very long time. According to the lecturer, hundreds ofpersons could not live in great house, although they are look like each otherout of the building, interior of the building there are not enough fire placesfor inhabitant to use, even the largest fire place just can use for ten families,they cannot cook for themselves. In addition, there are not enough rooms for somany residents to live in the same building.

Secondly, the professor believes that the great house cannotbe used as storage of food. There does not contain many of containers to storethe grain maize, if they can maintain the maize in containers they will notmains them on the floor. On the contrary, the reading passage make a theory
that grain maize need to be stored for a longtime while the great houses has enough space for storage.

Last, but not the least, the speaker indicates that thepurpose of great house is not for ceremonies. The evidence of reading passageis not enough, because pots cannot explain they are used to serve ceremonies, andancients should utilize more materials for ceremonies, such as stone, structuralthings, the pots may be regular trash or just use for meal. However, the writerdeems that pots are used to serve or prepare for ceremonies, since they aredocumented for another culture of Native American.


In conclusion, the professor disagrees with the theories ofthe reading passage, which are demonstrated above.
