12.23 It’s better to watch serious movies that help people think than to watch movies that could amuse and entertain people.

Some would like to watch serious movies, while others would like to watch amusing movies. Considering the benefits brought by the latter one, I agree with the statement that it is much better to watch amusing movies which can make us relax than watch serious movies.

To begin with, it's undeniable that almost all the people desire for relaxation after a tedious work, thus choosing to watch a movie that could bring them joy. It is the effect that a serious movie cannot achieve. From a recent survey in my hand, majority of people would like to choose a amusing movie when they enter the cinema. Just as one of my colleagues said: who are willing to indulge in a serious atmosphere when we leave our office? The best method to have a relaxation is to watch a movie which can make me laugh.

Furthermore, it is also disputable that whether a movie can help people think not depends on the its form, but its content and significant meanings. In other words, some amusing movies also can assist us in deeply thinking. Take "a child named Sanmao " ,a humorous film in my country, for example. This film depicted a story that a child joined army to earn his livelihood in the First World War. Because he was the youngest soldier in the army, he made countless jokes. Nevertheless, each audience, I think, would have a deeply thinking after he laughed at all kinds of Sanmao's funny behaviors. it is the war that causes such a young child to left his hometown and to suffer so much pressure. So, this meaning can not only be found in a serious movie, but also can be found in an amusing film.

Finally, if I were given a choice, I would choose an amusing movie instead of a serious movie, since I can relax and acquire meaningful thinking at the same time. Take the movie Lion King, a Disney carton movie, for example. During watching this movie, I will find amounts of joys brought by its vivid animal characters, even some negative roles. Indeed, the film maker of this movie intended to help us realize human nature , such as encouragement and cupidity, which will have positive and negative consequences. Although other serious movies can also help us find this truth, we're still willing to watch Lion King. The reason is that we can release our working pressure and have deeply thinking at the same time.

Judging from the evidences I offered above, it is apparent that the superiorities of watching amusing movies preponderate over some effect of watching serious movies. Therefore, why don't we choose watching an amusing movie as our first option?
