Undoubtedly, in the development of any organization, no matter a corporation, government, or academic institution, leaders usually play the most significant roles. So what is the most vital quality as for an effective leader to urge the development of the organization? Whether we can regard the ability to remain consistently committed to particular principles and objectives as the most important, as the author says?

In my point of view, although persistence to specific objectives and principles is necessary as for an effective leader, it is not the most essential quality. As on the one hand, blindly consistently committing to the wrong principles, without listening to the voices of the public, can lead the organization into a difficult situation; on the other hand, there are also some other vital and indispensible qualities for the effective leaders to obtain.

Admittedly, to guarantee the bright future of any institution, the leaders must make appropriate and feasible policies and strategies based on their farsighted insights about the current situation. These policies and strategies, however, may not be easily apprehended by the public. In this case, the leaders must uphold their right judgments, and give their members courage and confidence. Only in this way, the team can work in a right direction and get some achievements.

However, we still cannot draw to a conclusion that persistence is the most essential quality as for an effective leader, as listening to the popular opinions at right time is also necessary. Sometimes the principles and objectives pursued by the leaders are not comprehensive enough or even wrong. Under these circumstances, just persistence and determination cannot benefit the organization, but bring about new problems. The popular opinions, on the contrary, may reflect the interests or minds of the majority members of the organization. According to these opinions, some modification of the objectives will be helpful. Besides, adopting the popular ideas can also inspire the public motivation, and generate democratic atmosphere.

Furthermore, there are also other indispensible qualities for an effective leader, such as dedication, democratic thoughts, and probity. Without these, merely adhering to some particular principles and objectives may just make one a brutal and autocratic leader. (举例)

In summation, although insisting on some principles and objectives is necessary for an effective leader, he or she also cannot entirely ignore the ideas of the others. In addition, one also has to have some other indispensible qualities before being an effective leader.
