11"All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems."
The movement of globalization has made the world flatter and flourisher, while on the other hand, it also converts the problems which traditional can be solved by a nation to the issues that should be discussed by a group of country, sometimes the whole world. In order to make these questions more easer to be answered, someone raise the suggestion that a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems is needed, I do really think it is a creative idea, in that youth are the future, if these elites can develop a vision of the whole world and have the ability of handling cross-culture communication, the problem may be not so hard to deal with. And if we can realize the hidden challenges behind it, the recommendation can possibly be turned into reality.
Fundamentally, there are three main reasons for us to build such a college. Firstly, the global university can cultivate a lot of elites who have a vision of the world. The university is a place that students can gain knowledge and ability. While in the college, where cultures from the whole world can be taught, students will naturally improve their understanding of the world without bias. It is a good chance for them to view the cultures all over equally, and that is always a base for the discussion of talking to each other when face a cross-culture issue. Secondly, they will not only have the knowledge, but also develop an ability to communicate among different nations, which will be of vital importance especially facing the wave of globalization. Furthermore, the building of the college itself is a chance for different nations to sit down and talk about the widely concerned topic-education of youth. Via this event, countries will gain a well understanding of each other, and become more skillfully in handling other inter-culture activities.
On the other hand, in order to make this suggestion more practical, there are some problems we should not leave behind. Firstly, who will give the money to build the college? The reason that many of the cross-nation issues at last turned to be a failure is about money, think about UN climate change conference in Copenhagen closed recently, one of the main dispute is that how much money different countries should afford to prevent the temperature from increasing. Secondly, how will the class be decided? Some of the nations may be worried that the teachers who are invited to the class are just the deputies of a mighty ideology, so in order that all of the nations and cultures be regarded equally, the classes should be well designed and the teachers should be carefully chosen.
All in all, when the persistent social problems have turned more and more complex, it is necessary to put the youths together in a global university to teach them cross culture problem solving, and if we want make this proposal into practice, then we should raise the of how to pay the money and how to decide the class. |
