ISSUE13
many of the world's lesser-known languages are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them. The governments of countries in which these languages are spoken should act to prevent such languages from becoming extinct.
As the saying goes, where there is a different language, there is a unique culture. The traditions, rituals, moral sand beliefs are handed down to us generation after generation by our ancestors through the language. However, some lesser—known language are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them. Whether the government should do something to protect these languages from extinction? I agree in so far as each language should be respected, for languages and culture(cultures) are intricably(intricately?) related. At some point, however, I advocate both of the lesser—known language and the universal language should be encouraged to learn.
Each language represent(represents) a sort of culture. The origin and growth of each language is accompanied by the beginning, thriving, changing of a culture.(我喜欢这句话) As the precious legacy(was) handed down by ancestors, a language is the key to the study and preservation of a culture. What’s more, different culture has its distinctive traditions, rituals, morals, beliefs, which need their owe (own)language to embody their characteristic. The Eskimo has more than 20 words to describe the color white. If one has the basic knowledge of Eskimo, one will never be surprised by this fact because they are really a people of ice and snow. I f the language dies, the research of the culture well have to depend on deciphering and even conjecture, which is not accurate and different either. In this respect, preserve(preserving)the language is to preserve the sort of culture, we need different culture to prosper the world.(这一段着重说明语言可以反映一个文明的兴衰,是各个民族的文化象征,也是宝贵的遗产,与第一段呼应,不过第一段关于这方面写的稍微具体了一些,与这里有重复之嫌哦,第一段可以略略点过,比如具有在语言和文化方面很多价值这样概括地写。)
Another positive respect to preserve lesser—known language is that it can provide the linguistics virious(various) resources to better understand the human thought. Some language has a very special inflection system, while some may possess a rather interesting word order. All the seelements are highly valuable for the study of linguistics, which is a very important branch of anthropology, the study to understand human-beings. Linguists need the data collected from the analysis of different languages in order that they can build their theoretical systems aiming at better understand the essence of language and finally the organism of human thought.(这一段在写语言方面的研究价值,不过这一段我个人觉得可以写得再大一些~~语言最重要的功能是思想的载体,这是工具之所以为工具的原因。
On the other hand, as an expression tool, language serves mainly for the convenience of communication. Lesser—known language, on the other hand, will inevitably leads to language barriers. We are now living in the world with far-reaching trend of globalization. The modernization and industrialization ask for a massive communication and interaction between people from around the world. Therefore, if people or areasturn to a more widely used language, they can exchange ideas or absorb new thoughts more easily and convenience, then they can take this advantage to develop themselves better. India, take a lead in its software programs, a significant element to their success is their official language. On the contrary, those lagged behind tribes of aborigines, at the time they confine themselves to their lesser-known language, they also confine themselves to their own limited thought. That is the reason why they still suffer from depressed plagues—such as hunger, homelessness, disease, povertyand poor education. The governments of countries in which these languages are spoken should act to prevent such languages from becoming extinct.
In sum, preserving the lesser-known language is definitely worthwhile. It shows our respect and inclusiveness of different cultures, and the balance development of world needs this diversified cultures. Meanwhile, we still can see the drawbacks of language barriers in daily life outweigh the importance of a dying language, the government should offer sufficient financial support and manpower to make record and study of the losing language, at the same time, the government should induct their citizens to master the universal language to stimulate and enhance the prosperity of the whole nation. |
