"In the next mayoral election, residents of Clearview should vote for Ann Green, who is a member of the Good Earth Coalition, rather than for Frank Braun, a member of the Clearview town council, because the current members are not protecting our environment. For example, during the past year the number of factories in Clearview has doubled, air pollution levels have increased, and the local hospital has treated 25 percent more patients with respiratory illnesses. If we elect Ann Green, the environmental problems in Clearview will certainly be solved."

First, the author failed to provide sufficient evidence to convince me that the current members are not protecting the environment in Clearview. He only gave us three general examples. Perhaps the current members took some actions to protect the environment, but it did not work well. Meanwhile, increasing air pollution level and patients with respiratory illnesses in the past year cannot support the conclusion that the current members are not protecting the environment.
Secondly, even if the current members are not protecting the environment, what is the relationship between the current members and Frank Braun? The arguer assumes that Frank Braun is one of the current members, which is really unpersuasive.
Thirdly, we should know more information about these two candidates, especially the reason why we should vote for Ann Green rather than for Frank Braun. The arguer assumes that if we elect Ann Green, the environment problems will be solved, but he failed to support his assumption. And he did not provide us any evidence to show that if we elect Frank Braun, the environment problems will be worse.
Finally, the author provided no evidence about what Ann Green will do after she becomes the mayor of Clearview, such as what actions she will take to protect the environment and what she will do to enhance the development of the town.
In sum, the editor provided us so little evidence in the argument and he arrived in unconvincing conclusion. To better evaluate his conclusion, he should provide us enough information about these two candidates and the actions what Ann will do to protect the environment. At the same time, we should know the reason why we should not vote for Frank so that we will vote for Ann.

The author contends that imagination is more important than knowledge in most professions and academic fields. Imagination is important in our daily life along with the development of science and technology. Yet, knowledge is also essential in most professions and academic fields. It is hard to conclude which one is more important. I think both knowledge and imagination are essential in these fields, and a balance should be called between them.

On one hand, I admit the importance of imagination in most professions and academic fields. For instance, imagination is indispensable in the realm of arts. If one does not have imagination, he will not make great achievements in his art career.
When we look at the amazing arts projects made by these artists, we are astonished at their outstanding imagination and creativity. Consider the academic fields, being lack of imagination usually impedes the development of science and technology. The discovery and inventions in history can support my view. The ancient people saw the birds soaring freely in the blue sky and they began to imagine that if they had wings like birds, they will probably fly in the sky. This imagination enlightened two American brothers in last century and drove them to make the imagination come true. This is how the plane was invented. Therefore, in some sense, without the imagination, our thinking would be trapped in a can, and we can hardly make any progress in any field.


On the other hand, is imagination more important than knowledge? I think the author overrates the importance of imagination. Francis Bacon, the famous writer, philosopher and politician said," Knowledge is power."
Knowledge is what imagination derives from and it is the guidepost for human on the way to new inventions. Without knowledge, imagination is like a bird without its wings and is bound to fade away. For instance, if Edison did not have much knowledge about chemistry, he would not make many experiments to invent the bulbs. It is the basic knowledge about chemistry and imagination that Edison succeeded in his invention and became a famous scientist.

Therefore, we should consider the role of imagination and knowledge. At the same time, we should make good use of imagination and knowledge so that they can enhance each other. Knowledge and imagination depends on each other and enhances the development of each other. Without knowledge, imagination will lose its direction and fails to move a long way. Without imagination, knowledge is limited and it will not develop at all.

From what has been discussed, we can safely conclude that both imagination and knowledge play an important role in most professions and academic fields, they depend on each other and only by associating imagination and knowledge together can we soar freely in the sky of discovery.
