1.29 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? To solve the problems present and future is it necessary to understand the past?

As everybody knows, everything in the nature does not exist independently, which, however, is definitely connected with other things. Likewise no single occurrence happens without causes. For my part, I totally side with the issue in the topic--it is necessary to understand the past so as to solve the problems present and future.

Firstly, nothing could show up because of no reasons. By dating back to the historical origination, we can see how present problems come into being, which were always due to our ignorance or carelessness. The global warming is an example in case. By digging deep into its causes of formation, it was just because humanbeings keep burning fossil fuels and emit huge amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere without considering the damage brought to the nature and environment. Therefore, just because we know the historical reason for this urgent problem now, we are now trying our every effort to solve this problem by stopping using fossil fuels and exploiting renewable and environment-friendly source of energy.

Secondly, people should realize that future will become presence and today will pass away. So present problems, if not resolved properly, would threaten us and our following generations in the future. As the water resource is declining day by day, the saving of water usage is greatly advocated all over the world. People on the earth now realize that if we still continue to waste our valuable living resource, the last drop of water will be our tear. In addition, the shockingly rapid speed of deforestation today should not go beyond our focus. The result of over-deforestation would not just only be the shortage of wood productivity but the extinction of the species, the loss of the water and fertile earth, the potential threaten of desertification and the negative influence upon the global climate. In order to maintain a comfortable living environment for our future generation and leave them worriless life, we should now slow down the speed of deforestation, protect our environment and call for public care for wild lives.

To sum up, accumulation of the small problems in the past could result big disaster today, likely present ignorance or carelessness would bring damage to our existence tomorrow. To stop this trend, understanding the past is the really effective way.
