How to communicate effectively with other people about our ideas and values? Using language is the primary way for human beings to communicate from time inmemeral. Nowadays, as technology measurements become advanced and convinient, we can make the images more vivid and easer to understand when we convey our opinions to others. So I believe, we can not just communicate with a single way, but to take the advantages of all the means, therefore to express our ideas and values most effectively.

"Language is a particular kind of system of encoding and decoding information". This is the primary use of language, and it is the symble to separate us from animals. The study of language has never stopped, under the purpose of how the language is originated and how to make it more effective in our everyday use, such as linguistics. Compare with images, language can become more forceful and persuasive, moreover, it is more accessible and pricise. At this concern, images often runs the risk of misunderstanding or distorting the intended meaning. So using language to communicate is effective whenever to a large group of people, or just a single person.

Of course, communicating with language has its limitations, and we can find that insufficient in the use of images. Language is changing faster than we could speak, not only in the area of spelling and grammer, but also its mode when we convey a message. With the help of modern technology, we can see images every where--Internet, news journel, magazines, all intended to catch our attentions. Images can directly perceived through the senses, and give us a vivid and moving impression. What is more, there are things we cannot express only through language, such as artistic works. Mona lisa smile gives us endless imagines, and the edification we get from the piece can not be expressed pricisely with language. So,language and image are muturally assistant in the communication process.

Then what is the most effective way when we want to ecpress our ideas? In my opinion, there is not a definatively answer for that. On the contray, we should use various means which can most convey our meanings if we have the chance. Combining images and languages can be greatly enhanced the effectiveness, and give us both pricise and vivid impression. Every means has its advantages and shortcomings, of course, and in order to make our communication more effective, we have to combine all the strength of them to serve for us.

To sum up, language and images are both significant in communication process, no matter we communicate with a large group or a single one,
express ourselves or receiveing messages from others. Without images, language will turn to pale and abstract; without language, images can be distorting and unpersuasive. In a word, this complex issue needs a case-by-case analysis. issue 74.doc (26 KB, 下载次数: 3)
