After a long time I still remember the talk between a boy and his dad when I first saw the movie <<I Robots>>."Dad, will the machines finally defeat the human beings?" “Never, kid, machines are just our tools, how tools they defeat masters?" In fact, most of us believe the father’s words firmly. However, even as creator of machines, we have to face the fact that machines are becoming superior to human minds in more and more areas, and that with the development of science and technology, machines might really defeat human mind on the whole.
In many cases, we have to admit that machines are indeed superior to human mind, at least on the surface. When we design machines we’ve already expected machines to be superior to human. Usually machines could do jobs much more effective than human mind. Not hard to find that machines are popularizing nearly everywhere. In schools, learning machines like computers, video players, solve the problem that the “encyclopedia teachers” are not always available. In hospitals, however smart and skilled one doctor is, he or she could not compete with machines in detecting illness both quickly and exactly. In airports, even receptionists with best memories could not compare with the advisory machines. In companies, computer with simple software works more effectively than old-time workers. Actually, no one can deny that machines are becoming superior to human mind in more and more areas.
One may argue that however smarter machines are in certain areas, they are still products of human mind, so human mind would always be superior in the essence. Though I admit that in the sight–seeing future machines would only be cold machines without real intelligence, far from exceeding human mind, we could not safely conclude that human mind would stay dominant permanently. As the development of science is full of insecurity, a first creator role could not secure us permanent dominance. Possible is it that someday someone happens to find the myth of true intelligence and implies that to machines, then machines might change their destiny as tools, human mind might lose its superiority finally. You might think it ridiculous, just as how our ancestors would feel if they were told about computers we now take for granted, however, once science chooses it, no one could avoid it.
Even assuming that “machine revolution” won’t happen, still, it’s not time to cheer. People must keep relatively dependent from machines and never stop improving mind. As we have showed above, more and more machines are replacing people of their jobs, with less work and more leisure time where should we go？If unfortunately, the most part of human just count on the tiny part to create more convenient machines, but slow down or even stop improving their own minds, then, the whole levels of human mind will undoubtedly crash. And the day that machines are superior to human mind would not be far. To sum up, though in the sight-seeing future human mind will always be superior to machines, we cannot ensure the superiority in the long run. Machines are catching up- do you want to be left behind by your previous tools? Certainly, not!
Then, don’t depend too much on machines; strive to improve your mind, never stop.
