There are three possible usages for "great house" given in the passage. However, they are contradicted by the lecture one by one.

The reading passage points out that the "great house" is used to provided living spaces merely for local residents, because the structures' building appearance seems to be a large house. The lecturer counters this point by analyzing the inner look. The inside structure shows us the low ratio of the number of fire places to that of total apartments, and thus suggests that people have not cooked meals in the apartment, which indicates that residents cannot live in the house.

Another statement supported in the essay is that the house may be used for storing food, such as grain maize. The lecturer directly refutes the statement by suggesting that few containers which can be store food supplies are found. As a result, it cannot be a long-term storage for food.

Finally, the passage states that the Chaco structures could be treated as a ceremonial center for the reason that there are many old materials, such as broken pots, left. However, the lecturer explains that the pots are possible to be the building workers' leaving commodities or also they are likely to be building materials, which are simply some unnecessary trash.

There are three possible usages for "great house" given in the passage. However, they are contradicted by the lecture one by one.

The reading passage points out that the "great house" is used to provided(provide) living spaces merely for local residents, because the structures' building appearance(这里改成the appearance of the buildings更清晰一些) seems to be a large house(apartment更准确). The lecturer counters this point by analyzing the inner look. The inside structure shows us the low ratio of the number of fire places to that of total apartments, and thus suggests that people have not cooked meals in the apartment, which indicates that residents cannot live in the house.

Another statement supported in the essay is that the houses may be used for storing food, such as grain maize. The lecturer directly refutes the statement by suggesting that few containers which can be(去掉) store food supplies are found. As a result, it(这个有点指代不明哦,因为前一句没有出现the building or house,所以还是用全称较好) cannot be a long-term storage for food.

Finally, the passage states that the Chaco structures could be treated as a ceremonial center for the reason that there are many old materials, such as broken pots, left. However, the lecturer explains that the pots are possible to be(might be) the building workers' leaving commodities(the commodities left by the building workers) or also they are likely to be building materials, which are simply some unnecessary trash.

The reading passage raises the issue that there are several problems existed in the popular online encyclopedias. However, this statement is strongly challenged by the lecture which provides specific solutions to the problems mentioned in the passage.
To start with, the essay argues that the online encyclopedias can be written by any internet users who are less professional than the traditional encyclopedias' authors. On the contrary, the lecture claims that there is no denying the fact that either encyclopedia contains some mistakes, and the online one is relatively easy to correct. Whereas the mistakes included in the traditional one may last for several decades.
Furthermore, according to the text, the online encyclopedias are more dangerous to readers because the bad-intentioned men may attack the internet and corrupt the information in the encyclopedia. Not surprisingly, the lecture precisely points out that a crucial preserve policy has been applied and thus there has a restriction in reading material which could avoid such deletable behavior.
Finally, as for the author' point that the online encyclopedia could not give us a right direction about whether a certain topic is important or not, owing to a huge range of materials, the lecture optimistically point out that it is the diversity of online encyclopedias that provides us a large range of resources. Also, due to the limited spaces in traditional ones, they have to choose a part of information to print out and leave others.

[First,]the reading passage points out that the "great house" is used to provided[ provide] living spaces merely for local residents, because the structures' building appearance seems to be a large house. [Nevertheless,] the lecturer counters this point by analyzing the inner look. The inside structure shows us the low ratio of the number of fire places to that of total apartments, and thus suggests that people have not cooked meals in the apartment. [There is no doubt that the structure ]indicates that residents cannot live in the house.[细节上应该是通过数字来说明的,但已经把关键的东西说出来了,在表明文章关系上,结构词不要省]

Another statement supports in the essay is that the house may be used for storing food, such as grain maize. [Whereas,]the lecturer directly refutes the statement by suggesting[用太多换个saying] that few containers [删除which can be store food supplies] are found. As a result, [“great house”] cannot be a long-term storage for food.[这里container是还没被发现]

Finally, the passage states that the Chaco structures could be treated as a ceremonial center for the reason that there are many old materials, such as broken pots, left. [删However尽量不一样]On the contrary, the lecturer explains that the pots [are possible to be] seem like commodities which is leave by the building workers. [Another possible condition is that] they are [likely to be] building materials, which are simply some unnecessary trash.

The author has a very negative attitude toward the phenomenon that some wood companies try to get a certification in order to attract more customers. However, this statement is strongly challenged by the lecture which provides very specific opinions to contradict the points mentioned in the passage.
To start with, the author claims that most American customer will not place a high value on those ecocertified products for the reason that they are always related to unconvincing advertising. On the contrary, the lecturer explains that Americans could distinguish independent ecocertified goods and pure advertising products, and they would be interested in the ecocertification label and desire to buy such products.
Secondly, according to the text, woods with ecocertified label will be more exorbitant than those without. It follows that Americans are certainly prefer to buy the cheaper one. Not surprisingly, the professor further extends her criticism to this argument. He precisely points out that if the varied price between ecoceritified products and the normal is less than 5%, Americans will convince that it deserves to buy the new products.
Finally, as for the author's argument that only when the new American wood companies sell their products to foreign countries, can they have a large customer base, the lecture refutes that it is foreign competition that dampen the business of American companies. And such competition shows that American have a favor on the new products.

The author has a very negative attitude toward(towards) the phenomenon that some wood companies try to get a certification in order to attract more customers.
(
However, this statement is strongly challenged by the lecture which provides very specific opinions to contradict the points mentioned in the passage.

To start with, the author claims that most American customer will not place a high value on those ecocertified products for the reason that they are always related to unconvincing advertising. On the contrary, the lecturer explains that Americans could distinguish independent ecocertified goods and pure advertising products(这里的表述不太确切,这是我重听的:consumers in the United States don't treat all advertising the same, they distinguish between advertising claims that companies make about their own products and claims made by independent certification agencies. , and they would be interested in the ecocertification label and desire to buy such products.

Secondly, according to the text, woods with ecocertified label will be more exorbitant than those without. It follows that Americans are certainly prefer to buy the cheaper one. Not surprisingly, the professor further extends her criticism to this argument. He precisely points out that if the varied price(换成price variance会不会更好?) between ecoceritified products and the normal is less than 5%, Americans will convince that it deserves to buy the newcertified products(因为他们认识到保护环境越来越重要).

Finally, as for the author's argument that only when the new American wood companies sell their products to foreign countries, can they have a large customer base(他们的认证才有意义), the lecture refutes that it is foreign competition that dampen the business of American companies. And such competition shows that American have a favor on the new products(这里理解不准确,我重听的:there is a good chance that many american consumers will be interested in ecocertified products and guess what, if American companies are slow capturing those customers, you can be sure that foreign conpanies will soon start crowding into the American market, offering ecocertified wood that American domestic companies don't.

TPO 12作业~~~
The reading passage raises the issue that the portrait of a recently found painting is the famous English novelist Jane Austen. However, this statement is strongly challenged by the lecture which provides specific opinions to contradict to points mentioned in the passage.

To start with, the essay asserts that Austen's family approve that the portrait in the picture is Austen after her death. However, the lecturer argues that when Austen's family identified that portrait was Austen, Austen has been dead for almost 70 years and the family members who verified the portrait have not ever seen Austen themselves. So we could not connect subject with Austen.

Furthermore, according to text, the professional picture really resembles the Cassandra amateur sketch, which actually draws an adult Austen. Not surprisingly, the lecturer further extends his criticism to this argument. He precisely points out that although there are many similar aspects between the portrait and the Cassandra sketch, such as eyebrows, nose, mouth and so forth, we cannot prove the portrait is Austen. Austen's family has so many females who have the same age with Austen, such as cousins and other female relatives, could have a similar appearance with Austen. Also, Mary is Austen’s distant niece. It follows that the portrait may depict any girl what mentioned above.

Finally, as for the author's argument that a fact that Austen is a teenage girl when the picture was painted can be proved by a society portrait painter, the lecturer does not refutes this argument directly. Instead, he explains that the portrait was not sold in London when Austen was a teenager. Actually, it sold by a man called Wilson, at that moment Austen was 27 years old. Therefore, Austen is older than the character of the portrait.

The reading passage casts doubts on the accuracy of the memoir written by Chevalier. However, this statement is strongly challenged by the lecturer which provides specific opinions to contradict the points mentioned in the passage.

To start with, the essay claims that Chevalier described himself as a rich man while living in Switzerland, but in fact, he borrowed a chunk of money from a Swiss merchant after spending money on parties and gambling. The lecturer does not refute this statement directly. Instead, she argues that Chevalier had been wealthy, meanwhile owing to that it usually took a few days to convert the goods into actual money while selling his properties, so he need to borrow some money for basic needs and wait for his own money arrival.

Furthermore, according to the text, there is a conversation recorded in the memoir, while the conversation happened many years before the time when Chevalier recorded it. Therefore, it is impossible for Chevalier to exactly remember the content of conversation. Not surprisingly, the professor further extends his criticism to this argument. He points out that it can be proven that Chevalier had taken some notes and journals during the conversation. Then he just regularly wrote the conversation in his memoir.

Finally, in the memoir Chevalier said that he escaped from a prison in Venice through drilling a hole in the ceiling by a piece of metal, whereas the author states that it is the Chevalier's good friends who gave a bribe to jailers to free him. The lecturer counters this argument by providing us the fact that the prison where Chevalier once lived has ever been repaired, which identifies that Chevalier' escape behavior as what written in his memoir. Besides, other prisoners even had more intimate friends in Venice than Chevalier had.

(我重听的第二段:the chevalier stated in his memoir that each night immediately after conversing with votaire. he wrote down everything he could remember about that particular nice conversation, evidently the chevalier captured the notes of these conversations for many years, and referred to them when writing the memoir.news:/s/ witnesses who live with the chevalier in his later life confirm that he regularly consult his notes and journals when composing the memoir.

Finally, in the memoir Chevalier said that he escaped from a prison in Venice through drilling a hole in the ceiling by a piece of metal, whereas the author states that it is the Chevalier's good friends who gave a bribe to jailers to free him.
