TOPIC: ISSUE208 - "The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people."

Imagine,if we are trapped in a totally strange planet which dominant by aliens ,what will you do to blend into this society that you know nothing at all ? For me ,I'll dress the way they dressed and learn the way to behave like them , because one can never underestimated the information contained in an daily cloth or a
small greeting talk . The way people look, dress and act do pass a lot information which can reflact the culture , ideas and values of community .

let's start our topic by talking about people's appreance . The function of cloth is not only to keep us warm , but also to show ideas comes from the civilization and wisdom . Citing an story in bible , Adam and eva who are the first couple of human beings on the earth, began to wear coverings because they felt shame to be naked after they eat the forbidden apple. No matter how untruthful and fantasy this story can be , it does show that in certain culture the oringinal function is not to protect against cold but to show the civilize which is the main different between human and animal . And an other example is if we back to the ancient times ,like Egypt in 4000 years b.c., it would quite easy for us to tell the difference between pharoah , royal members , common people and slaves . Why ? All becasue the way they appread , the pharoah will with make up and cane , the slave will wear nothing at all. Come to today , with the highly devoloped social system and cicilization , we may not use cloth to tag the difference between class , butstill use it to show the different characters in society . In hospital ,we can easily find out who is doctor and who is nurse. All these function of cloth is endowed by human , we need to find someway to show our values and different ideas , the way we dress just is the carrier for this purpose .


Second , for each individual , we do use our appearance and behavior to reveal our attitudes and interests .Almost all the company require their staff come to work dress neatly , if one come to office with slippers and greasy jeans , it is not our fault to doult that his work might as frowzy as his appearance. In China , there is an old saying gose"the girl only dress up for who likes her", this sentence partially shows that in asian culture the way you dress shows your feeling of others in this case the girl dressed up because she wanted to show the aggratitude for other's affection. The personal interest can easily tell from the appearance too. If one always wear sport suit , it is reasonable to tell he like sports a lot . If one always wear the T-shirt with the portry of Che Guevara , maybe he interested in politics a lot .As me , I never wear leather or fur , because I am a animal lover.Thus, Individually , we treature a lot for the way we look ,some time it is as important as words and language , we use our appearance to communicate with each other, pass the information to others and read the signal from their appearance .

Third,even thoughas independent as each of us can be , we still a member of the society , so more or less we share some common value and ideas together , and at same time we show this common values for appearance
. For instance , when comes spring festvial which is a tranditional chinese festvial , all Chinese like to wear something red , because red represent luck and success in Chinese culture . The same cases exist in western too , no matter how divesity and humanity
American society can be ,when someone against law and be sentenced by court , he or she need to wear prison jumpsuit in jail , because they aviloent the socity comman interst , the law deprive the right of dress from them. The phenomenon can be more obvious when the community
is small , like in 1980s , a kind of culture called Yuppie had been rised by a group of young ambitious prefessinal person in the city , they have good meterial life and well educated , because the way they dress, a kind of cloth style has been invented called Bohemia which is still very in today.

All features mentioned above can be find in behavior as well. To sum up, beside the basic reason of why people look , dress and act in a certain way , more important reason for that is because we need to express our ideas and value through them . There is so many other method to understand a society 's value, to find informain hide in the people's appearance and behavior is a good way in.
