Argument 45
The following appeared as an editorial in a wildlife journal.

"Arctic deer live on islands in Canada's arctic region. They search for food by moving over ice from island to island during the course of a year. Their habitat is limited to areas warm enough to sustain the plants on which they feed, and cold enough, at least some of the year, for the ice to cover the sea separating the islands, allowing the deer to travel over it. Unfortunately, according to reports from local hunters, the deer populations are declining. Since these reports coincide with recent global warming trends that have caused the sea ice to melt, we can conclude that the decline in arctic deer populations is the result of deer being unable to follow their age-old migration patterns across the frozen sea."
============================================================================================

In this editorial, the author concludes that the number of Arctic deer decline is the result of deer being unable to travel over across island follow their traditions. To substantiate the conclusion, the arguer points out that the environment where they live in and the situation about their age-old migration. The arguer also put the local hunter’s reports and global warming trends as evidence to support his points of views. However, the editorial is problematic in several respects, rendering the argument unconvincing as it stands.

The argument’s chief problem is that it relies on unfairly report provided by local hunters. This survey fails to cover all the possibilities of samples. Arctic deer live on islands in arctic region, so perhaps the majority places they exist in human being could not reach in. Hunters could not record all the members of them, the deer what they found perhaps is just the tip of the iceberg. How can they predicate the number of deer is falling-off? How can we be convinced by the report they supply? As a result if the author could not offer more accurate information on Arctic deer it would not convince me.

Even if author provide truthful evidence about the deer which live in the arctic region, it also be unfairly assumes that make confuse the global warming trends with the deer populations’ decline. The ocean trend may have no effect on the specific region mentioned by the editorial. It may cause most sea ice to melt, but arctic is near the earth polar too cold to be not influenced by the global warming trends. So to maintain the author’s point he could to put more details on the contact between the both sides.

Even if the ocean melt caused by the global warming trends and lead to arctic ice melt that could be unfairly assumes that the number of arctic deer decline is due to their age-old migration. Although the climate change, the animals could also be adapt to the environment where they live in and the weather what they inhabit. In addition, deer could adjust by other means, such as alter their old customs that moving over ice from island to island during the course of a year, perhaps they could migrate to a colder region that the ice not melt. Perhaps they may change their foodstuff and add more food they could eat so that the deer could survive in the arctic.

In sum up, the author should provide more accurate data on the arctic deer’s decline and more details about the contact between the global warming trends and the arctic environment’s change. If the arguer could offer much evidence on the deer’s life habit, it would be persuasive as it stands.

我对这个点感到质疑,感觉人不能到达不足以说我们不能考察鹿的数量。再说文章已经说了DECLINE了,我们不能对它怎么检查它的DECLINE质疑,这个不属于逻辑错误。
