Issue 43 To be an effective leader, an public official must maintain the highest ethical and moral standards.
Traditionally people consider that a public official, especially an effective leader, should obviously contains the character of maintains the highest ethical and moral standards. The author also asserts that to contain the highest ethical and moral standards is a fundamental principal of an effective official. There are some justifications of their idea, however, when taking humanity and the definition of great leadership into account, in my point of view, it is completely wrong.
Coming first to indicate that successful are not merely controlled by high ethical and moral quantities. In a business realm, successful leadership is generally defined as that which achieves the goal of profit maximization for a firm’s shareholders or other owners. In the political realm, of course, the issue is no less complex. We cannot exclusively take the people or members of the country instead of the shareholders or other owners. Yet, we may clearly found that political achievements, especially economic achievements contribute a lot to judge a great leader, so there are great leaders who are not high scored in their ethical and moral subjects while still memorized and characterized as heroes. For instance, Bill Clinton, the third-youngest president in the history of United States, presided over the longest period of peace-time economic expansion after the foundation of America, which included a balanced budget and a federal surplus, though suffered the Lewinsky Scandal because of the sexual relationship with a 22-year-old White House intern named Monica Lewinsky, still was highly praised as a great leader of US by the American people. While, Gorge W Bush, the president just after Clinton, was seldom heard any rumors or affairs and was considered to be responsible husband with high ethical and moral quantities, in contrast, was polled as one of the worst and the most warlike president in the history of United States. We cannot hope that every great leader to be an ethical and moral model, then better should we choose the man with the highest ethical and moral standards to our leader than to process a series of boring procedures to select. So the highest ethical and moral standards maybe too strict for any man who just want to be an effective leader, besides, personal morality is unrelated to effective political leadership.
Admittedly, successful leadership and public morality are closely connected, public morality was centered by personal morality, nevertheless that does not mean the leaders has to be puritan or dervish. Dante, the great Italian poet of the middle age, was the symbol of the Renaissance Movement advocates that humanity to be center of mankind which can also conduct our thought towards each mind. Richard Nixon was a great leader for his supernormal work of economic success and excellent job of reconstruct the relationship between Sino and US, however, he was the first president to be impeached by the congress and the first one to resign the office. He was given no chance to continue his leadership nor even to correct his behavior. Later the American people found that they may seem to be too strict to their leader for humanity. So when something happened to Bill Clinton, although he was the second one to be impeached after Nixon, the result was changed—after a sincere apology, he was free. The ultimate goal of leadership was to serve the people, just as Lincoln says to build a nation of the people, by the people and for the people. Then there is no need to pay so much attention on maintaining the highest ethical and moral standards.
To sum up, due to analysis and reasons mentioned above, which sometimes intertwine to form an organic whole and thus become more persuasive than any one of them, we may safely arrive at the conclusion that an effective leader has not to be a morel model and to maintain the highest ethical and moral standards is not the basic requirement of a leader. No surprisingly, All the points issued above has support what I strongly believed--a great leader should capture no only morality but also creativity and hardworking etc, besides, more spaces should be given to a leader.

楼主的例子举得都很赞!不过有些句子杂糅得厉害,动词的形式可以注意一下,总得来说还是很好的!
