When comes to the issue about what should be taught to the student so that they will be competent for the complicated society, many people would hold the opinion that education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student, while others regard common sense and general principle as the truly answer. However, after a careful consideration, I agree with the notion that specifically designed education is better. To substantiate my point of view, I will talk about both pros and cons of those two sides.
First of all, student-oriented education is the most effective way to help students learn because it can actually stimulate the interest of each student and excavate their potential. Admittedly, teacher-oriented education is easy to manage and can satisfy the basic needs of so many students, however, it sometimes can be counterproductive. Teachers may neglect the shining points of some students. Men are born equally, but men are also born different. Interest of every man varies, that is why universities have so many colleges. As interest is the best teacher, by means of teaching accordingly, we will absolutely explore one's motivations of thinking and creating. Thus we should tutor according to the different needs and interests of each student.
Another reason for advocating the specifically teaching method is that not only everyone is fond of various things, but also different individuals own different capabilities and talents. Human always likes to do things they are good at; because, in that procedure, people feel a kind of superior to others. Talents and capabilities are just such things they do naturally well in. For example, blind man tends to have clear ears and excellent counting ability, deaf people mostly are sensitive about colors and singers are born with an excellent throat. As training them differently can help them more involved in the subject, specifically designed education is much in needed.
Nonetheless, education resources including hardware teaching resources of facilities and software teaching resources of tutors are always limited. I am afraid that the best universities hardly do one-student to one-teacher course. Further more, even if we can offer such numerous teachers and hardware to each student, shortcomings are obvious. What will be the future of a graduate mastering a marvelous talent of writing without any skill on calculating? Maybe there will be no happy ending. So the way of merely tutoring students specifically designed course will absolutely narrow his view of the world. Admittedly, the example I listed above is exaggerated, but student who is shy in communicating are many.
To conclude, there is no easy solution to such a complex issue, however, taking into account all the dimensions of the issue discussed in the above analysis, might be the first step out of the dilemma. We may find some pioneer examples as collage course selection system (general course and selective course) to be a good template. |
