In this statement, the president of the Mira Vista College advocates that the college should hire additional job counselors and give more courses about business and computer technology like the Green Mountain College in order to help students to find a good job. To solidify this statement, the president cites the example of the nearby Green Mountain College that 90% of the graduates find employments and the majority of these students had an offer from the prospective company.
Nevertheless, only 70% students find a job in Mira Vista College and half of these students find employments in their major study. The reason why the GM college students could get good jobs is due to more business courses and job counselors in the GM. In my view, this statement is problematic for several reasons.
First of all, it is possible that the specialized fields which offer by the two schools are different. Perhaps, the majors setting in GM colleges meet the requirement of the company and the major in MV are oversupply in the market. Therefore, it is hard for the MV graduates to find a job. Even if the majors setting are the same in the two colleges, the courses perhaps which offer by GM are more practical and functional. The presidents overlook the difference between two schools. The president of the MV College overlooks such specific concerns between two colleges
Secondly, if the majors setting in the two colleges are different, the computer technology course and the business course which give to the MV students are useless. Since the students of GM majored in art, while the MV students are specialized in the technique research and they need more focuses on the technical study. Therefore, the business courses and computer technology course serve no function to their work career. If this is the case, it provides no efficient evidence to support to open more business and computers technology courses.
Finally, in recommending hire additional job counselors, the president fails to consider the real situation between the graduates of these two colleges. Maybe the students of GM study hard and pay more attention to their subject, and they have struggle on tireless and uncomplainingly. All these give more opportunities to the students of GM rather than MV.
In sum, the argument is not persuasive. To bolster it the president must provide more details about the major and course setting in two colleges and the condition of the student between two colleges.
