I could not partly agree with the statement. In modern society, we know that the interests can help scholars and researchers work more effectively so that there will be more contributions. However, in my opinion, these people should also care about the influence to the world for its better development.

To begin with, I admit that the researchers and scholars are more willing to keep studying and maybe contribute to the whole human beings if they are interested in what they are focusing on. For instance, nearly one century ago, the brothers named lat were found of the flying. They wondered what the world would look like from the sky. So, for ,this sake, they overcame all frustrations and finally invented the first machine which could fly in the sky for a short while. Perhaps it is only several minutes, but this is a important step in history. Based on this, more and more high-tech flying machines came into being and nowadays they can carry hundreds of people from one place to another in a short time.

Secondly, it does not matter that whether the interests are unusual and idiosyncratic if these can contribute to the society. We know, in the history, there are plenty of inventions and theories seemed ridiculous at that time, while after several years or even a longer time, they would finally turned to be right and useful. Several centuries ago, in Europe, when Galileo discovered the truth that the earth runs around the sun, almost every body deny this theory which was totally opposite to what they knew before. In their view, the earth is the center of the cosmic. But, when it comes to 19th century, this reality got admitted. So, maybe what we think crazy now will turns to be right in the future some day.

Thirdly, the statement said that scholars and researchers should not be concerned with influence. I think this is needed to be taken into considerate. Whoever must be responsible to the society for he or she is one of us. We have the duty to make sure and protect our world develops in a right way. When it comes to scientists and study, this responsibility is more important because they are the leaders guide the whole human beings. If they can show the right way, the world will get better. If not, everything could be terrible. In lots of movies, we can see what terrible things will happen caused by a wired discover or invention. For their own interest, our modern cities can be easily destroyed, the disease can easily kill any creatures, the kinds of humans turn to be monsters. Therefore, to prevent these come into being, scholars and researchers should consider whether their interest can contribute to the world,. If not, it is better to stop it at the moment.

To sum it up, it is better that what the scientists and researchers are studying can meet their individual interests. And it is also important that the results can be good to the world.
