As Polybius who was the ancient Greece historian said, history was worthful just because of its function for instruction. He claimed history would not only make people broaden and enrich mind, but also be the guidance for people’s action by providing lively precedents. As follows, I will describe three main points about history guiding for the present.

Firstly, history can make people cognize the world and even predict future to some degree. Human, thing and society have all the past, present and future, and among them there are certain regulations obeyed. History study would summarize the laws by research and analysis the bygone figures, events and social ideology and so on. The most essential part of history is the laws refined ring upon ring, which can play a role of guidance for people to learn practical fairs using history study method. From historical perspective, we would know and evaluate de facto events and problems more rationally, comprehensively and profoundly. Furthermore, based on this acknowledge, human would probably predict future trend in limited space and time range.

Secondly, it is to take history as a mirror to justify practical problems and development depending on ancient experiences or lessons. History contains abundant experience and skills to deal with various affairs and difficulties developed by the predecessor, which had been accumulated and handed on from generation to generation. The wealth gained by our ancestors would last forever to direct us when we are faced to similar situation. As for successful experience of forefather, we can inherit them and settle numerous difficulties based on cognition of these precious experience and measures. While those past failures can also alert us to prevent practice operation from errors which had been discovered by ancestors. Undergoing again, it is inevitable a waste of time and energy. Learning history would evade the tortuous and useless path of re-exploring, and save cost of time, money and energy. It is an effective method to advance efficiency to accomplish modern project and study. There is a well-known example as Thomas Alva Edison, at whose invention the modern world is present. During his whole invention time, one success frequently was established on the basis of many times failures. However, does it tell us to study or invent something like the willing horse from the beginning and prove diligence and innovation of them? The answer is absolutely not. I mention this example to state that success is accomplished above accumulation of large number of failures, moreover the higher social modernization is, the more failures people need to produce. Thus, ancient experiences seem so significant that we can be enough convenient to create new and modern things just on the basis of them.

Additionally, learning history is the best way to educate people to form upright social consciousness, nourish people’s thought and enrich artistic appreciation. History as a best course book guides people on the aspects of moral, ideal and historical perspective, which is also a strength weapon for human to learn the world, know oneself and even lift them out of and above themselves. Those eminent figures, historical events and ancestors’ sprits help people realize meaning of life, value of life and human dignity, what is more, make people correct world outlook, views on life and values deep down.

In summarize, understanding the past would provide great guidance for human to establish today’s world.
