"How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."

Obviously, the speaker’s claims are specious in taking it for granted that the society’s destiny is hinged on children’s socialization and groundlessly asserting our failure in cultivating the young who can better the society. As far as I am concerned, the fate of a society depends on the cooperation of both natural and manual forces, but rather simply one single factor as children’s socialization; further more, we have already mastered the skills to bring up kids of benefit to the society.
To start with, children’s socialization refers to the process of carrying on the society’s norms, customs and ideologies during their growing up, which could influence destiny of the society to some extent. First, norms, especially laws and moralities, are of vital importance for a society; without obeying these norms, the better the young are educated, the more damage they would cause to the society. A persuasive case here is Bernad Madoff, the former chairman of the NASDAQ stock market, who cheated an astronomical number of money from the investors. Second, it’s not exaggerated that social cohesion relies largely on people conforming their society’s customs or social conventions from childhood. Taking the Thanks Giving Day for example, it could not only enhance the family relationship, but also teach children to show thanksgiving to the family and the society. At last, ideology is the core of social spirits; only if the young grasp it, the society could exist generation by generation.
However, one tree does not make woods. Several other elements playing roles no less important than children’s socialization should not be neglected. The most apparent one is the unexpected natural disaster. A case related here is the “5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake ” in China, which laid the city flat in hours, claimed thousands of lives, and shocked the whole world. When it comes to the manual forces, the superpower’s manipulation should unavoidably be taken into consideration. We have to admit that the competition between oil monopoly companies contributed to the wars. Also people’s recognition toward cultural disparities carries significant impact on the coherence of a society, which can be seen from the religious confliction between Hindu and Muslim in India, 2002.
Finally, as to the speaker’s second claim that we are incapable of nurture kids who can contribute to the development of society, I would like to point that we have undoubtedly grasped the method of bring children up in accordance with the social needs, which is successfully supported by the society’s flourishing with each passing day. Economically, although several counties are still stuck with impoverishment, the majority of counties in the world are enjoying a booming economy. Politically, the importance of peace, mutual respect, and international cooperation has caused worldwide concern. And culturally, we are more sensitive to foreign civilization and international culture communication, for example, the French Culture Festivals are held all over the world each year. Mind you, all these social progress are propelled by us, including both the old and the young. If we haven’t learned the correct way of cultivating children, as is asserted by the speaker how could we achieve such a splendid progress?
In conclusion, I disagree with the speaker’s standpoints and concede that: the fate of the society relies on both natural and manual forces and we have already manipulated the way to rearing kids contributable to the social improvement. 以下是提纲: 159"The human mind will always be superior to machines because machines are only tools of human minds."
