TIME: 60min As a path leading to human past, the study of history examines, analyzes, and reproduces historical events, which is undeniably of vital importance to both our spectacular everyday life and micro social development. The argument makes a biased assertion in restricting the meaning of historical research merely to the connection with our daily lives. To start off, historical research leads us pass though time and space to approach the original human society, comprehend the culture transformation, and uncover the potential rules. By resorting to printed materials or unearthed discoveries, historians vividly exhibit the ancient social system and life style. Even statutes of prehistoric society—chipping flints to get fire, making bows and arrows—are available for us due to historical study. Also, the research on history serves as a mirror to reflect the human culture and mind. For instance, historians find that the ancient Native Americans performed group dances with painted faces and decorated clothes to cast out the devils on the sick, which indicates people’s warship in supper nature forces in prescientific era. What is more, principles rooted in the historical evens and cultural phenomenon could also be uncovered by the historians. It is the study of the factors influencing the collapses of many dynasties that helps people realize the importance of democracy. Because of the functions of historical examination mentioned above, we can benefit a lot in daily life, especially in such an Information Age. Exposed to all kinds of media each day, not only can we watch TV programs based on historic stories, but also read biographies on figures in history. All these historical resources are instrumental in the establishment our social values and outlook on life. Take a popular book, Diana: the Queen of Britain, for example. Diana’s charitable behavior toward impoverished children described in the book gets many readers moved and to care about the poor kids. On the other hand, many historical programs function as our daily entertainment and help us kill the spare time. One apt case related is the film: Cold Mountain, which is about a beautiful love story happened during the American Civil War. Of course, the back ground, of the story--the Civil War--is based on the historians’ research, and then introduced to our daily life by the screen. However, the value of historical study goes far more than the relevant of our daily life. It works as an arrow penetrating the ancient, modern, and future to help social organizations and the nation to clearly understand the situation and avoid repeating mistakes committed by our predecessors. From a certain perspective, the MBA cases are a vast history of previous business’ trials and errors. Relying on these cases, entrepreneurs analyze their companies’ current situation and make better future plans. The same is true when it comes to a nation. Lots of counties’ original economic growth was realized by the sacrifice of natural environment, which resulted in terrible environmental disasters. Learning from this miserable history, they begun to realize the importance of environmental coherence and set environment-friendly society as a goal. In conclusion, as a result of historical study’s function of revealing the past, it plays a crucial role in both our daily life and other deeper respects related to social improvement. |
