Art and music span time and space as an abiding theme of the history. In my point of view, the authorities should make art and music required classes in the curriculum in addition to math, science, history and language.
Studying art and music expose younger children to diverse culture and life styles. This exposure not only broadens the horizons of the young kids, but also provides them a better way to perceive the world in a different set of eyes. For example, the numerous paintings of the Renaissance tell what the world like at that time, such as what people wear and what they use to decorate their home. Those paintings open a door allowing people today to have a glance at what the world is like in seventeen centuries. Young children who learn art and music can have a better understanding and tolerance of differences and diversity.
Furthermore, art and music are also excellent ways for students to express their emotions. In some countries, some doctors suggest their patients to draw of sing when they have mental problems. Some even analyze the drawing and songs through technological devices to diagnose the illness. Similarly, young children have various psychological problems and need an outlet to release the bad emotion stemming from their studies and daily life. Art and music are the effective ways for them to deal with the issues.
At last, the beauty in art and music is actually an enjoyment, which assists young children to relax. Art and music allow children to get rid of the stressful and competitive environment temporarily. Unlike the dullness in math and science and the boredom in history and language, the colorful paintings and rhythmic song can refresh the students' minds and sooth their anxieties.
Anyway, music and art play an important role in the making of one's personality. I think young children should be required to learn art and music.
