Michael Jordan once said that it was basketball that taught him how to be a man. Undoubtedly, we do learn ample lessons during our lives while playing sports. We do sport for plentiful reasons including getting exercises, competing with each other and so on. But actually we learn something unconsciously even we don not notice when we do sports. I have the following reasons to substantiate my standpoint.
Firstly, sports teach us to be honest. As I mention above, someone do sports just for the sake of competing with others, thus they can enjoy the moment beating others. However, there is someone who performs dishonestly in order to win. When this happens, sports will teach them that consistently to be honest do benefits to them, or else they will lose their reputation. Take the former track and field athlete Marion Jones as a typical example. Jones used to be the role model of American people, but later criticized by all people just because she cheated in the match by using performance enhancing drugs.
Secondly, doing sports is an excellent thoroughfare to improve relationship. We always talk about rank the friendship the first place while competing. Actually, competing in a sports math has profound connotations. First prize is not the single optimal destination in participants’ minds, sports have impressed them that friendship is more significant. For instance, in one Marathon match, in order to help an injured rival the famous athlete Russell gave up his opportunity to win the medal by walking with him together.
Another thing sports teach us is teamwork. Typical examples are football and basketball. Something can be finished by a single person but a tremendously large number of things cannot. Michael Jordon may not successfully pursue the MVPs without the assistance of his teammates.
To sum up, sports do teach us lessons about lives in many aspects, including credulity, friendship and teamwork which informed us never try to ignore the lessons we learn from sports. |
