Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Younger school children (ages five to ten) should be required to study art and music in addition to math, science, history and language.

In recent discussions of the primary education, a controversial issue has been whether art and music should be acquired in the younger school children curriculum. On the one hand, some educators argued that these youngster aged from five to ten are too naive to learn such comprehensive subjects. It might lay too much pressure on them. However, others contend that art and music should be accessible to these kids since they can improve their appreciation for the arts, develop their brains and shape their values. As far as I am concerned, younger student should learn art and music at the school.

Admittedly, arts and music may be trying subjects for these immature children for it is always hard to understand the implicit meaning behind the art and music and require a synthetic knowledge for appreciation. Nevertheless, the problem lies not in the art and music themselves; it is about how the educators select the material for such a young age group and the means they teach. Actually, art and music are in various forms which embrace both basic and complex formats. For those youngsters, teachers could represent some painting with various colors and play some music with simple notes to them. This could not only induce their interests in art and music, but assist to activate their taste for art as well.

In addition, the advantages of learning art and music far outweigh the disadvantages. First, art and music can enhance the development of the brains of young children. A recent research indicated that kids who have earlier access to sketches and light music may excel other kids at the same age in understanding the relationship between shapes and the ability to concentrate on classes. Another experiment conducted by the educational institution in UK confirmed the idea that their brains are sophisticatedly developed. Therefore, to teach them art and music is to better nurture them for the future. Second, the positive information conveyed by the composers or the painters could contribute to the construction of the sound values. For instance, the story about the adversity Beethoven went through with his notable achievement could stimulate their respect for this supreme artist and attempt to be as persistent as him. Thus, art and music courses can advance children's education.

To sum up, young school children could benefit from these classes in terms of sensation, brain development and values. As essential as other courses such as math and language, art and music should be involved in the curriculum for the young age group.

In the recent discussion of education, a controversial issue has been whether it is the best way to increase teachers' wages improving the quality of education in a country. Some educators claim that the quality of education can be advanced effectively by increasing the teachers' income since they will devote themselves more to education. However, others contend that it is not the most desirable means to enhance education by augmenting teachers' salaries. Far from increasing salaries, many other factors, such as facilities and qualification of the teachers, distinctly affect the quality of education. As far as I am concerned, I am in favor of the latter one.

First, the policy of increasing teachers' salaries, admittedly, could to some extent encourage the teachers to be more involved in their career. They are stimulated to concentrate on their teaching. For example, teachers may spare no effort to the class design which could result in efficiency of the class. But, only increasing the salary cannot ensure the high quality of the class. Factors, like qualification of the teachers and facilities in the school, have dramatic influence on the quality of education as well.

Actually, the competence of the teachers plays an important role in education. An erudite teacher could always explain and illustrate the complicated concept specifically and in an easy way. Therefore, the students are more likely to acquire the knowledge expeditiously. This could maximize the efficiency of knowledge acquisition during the class. Fortifying the teaching skills and academic performance could intensify the quality of teaching.

In addition, facilities in the school also matter greatly to the quality of education. The schools have always been equipped with various facilities, such as library and language lab. Without the assistance of these facilities, the class could not be enhanced effectively. For instance, in a biology class, without observing the anatomy of golden fish in the lab, it would be arduous for students to understand the process of experiment and core concept, like vein, explained in the chapter. Thus, facility improvement can help students obtain practical experience.

To sum up, it would be hasty and illegitimate to assert that increasing the salary is the best way. Various factors contribute to the improvement of the quality of education — facilities and the qualification of the teachers and so forth. Only concerted effort could achieve the goal of education.
