I agree with the speaker`s assertion that a truly effective education should be specifically designed to meet the particular requirements of each student. However, the speaker ignores another crucial aim of education:to enlighten people to know what they need, what they are interested in. To pander the interests and needs of individuals blindly will not bring efficiency.
I concede that if education meets individual`s interests, it must be effective. For instance, the boys who are curious about universe must learn astronomy fast and be willing to know more stories from their teachers. We can see that the education is truly effective when this happens. Otherwise, no matter how hard the teachers try to infuse the knowledge of stars and planets into a student whose only interest is poetry, the result will always be disappointing, unless the teachers find how to make him interested in astronomy. As the great scientist Albert Einstein said, the best teacher is interest.
Furthermore, when our children have not realized what they are interested in, helping them find out the answer of this question is the duty of our educators. None of us was interested in quantum physics when we were first grade, because we even do not know what physics is.(时态不一致) But undoubtedly, some have started to notice the transformation of water and some other physics phenomena. If our teachers specifically design their method to teach these children, then they will find their zeal in physics and possibly one or two of them will become the greatest minds of this planet and totally change people`s understanding of the universe in the future. And this is an effective education.
Undeniably, it is harmful to our society, as well as students themselves, that we only pander their interests, without taking what they should learn to complete their knowledge construction into consideration. This is illustrated by that every child, no matter what nationality are they(they are), should study at least their mother language, math, history and so on in schools. Even a pupil has no talent in mathematics, but he still has to study it. An effective education ought not to abandon this subject for him in order to satisfy his interest, but to teach him how to study it well though he might learn it not as fast as those who love the game of numbers.
The effective education must be specifically designed not only to meet the subjective needs and interests, but also the objective requirements of the society and knowledge construction. Our education should not only be a provider, but also be a guide of knowledge.
