"The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives


The value of history study is ubiquitous. Part of history study does contribute greatly to our daily lives, at the same time other parts may not show their conspicuous relevance. Nonetheless, both of history studies, no matter whether it relevant to daily life, is still of tremendous value.

To begin with, we require to define the two subjects which we discuss: history and daily life. History is the civilization in the past, an aggregate of all the human achievements written down. Shortly, history is what our ancestors had done. Daily life is the events that each individual experiences every day, commonly acknowledged in material sense. The philosophical thinking which happens in an individual`s mind is not included, though it appears daily. However, the daily life is not only concerning accommodations, social background e.g. economy, politics and so on also should be taken into account, but only on the topic that how it influences every individual`s living conditions, the abstract concepts are not included. As we have figured out what is history and daily life, we could find that the study of history is valuable to all the realms of life.

On the one hand, the study of history is valuable to the extent that it is relevant to daily life. Study of history helps us to avoid the mistakes committed our predecessors in the past. As we can learn from the history of economy that we should buy stocks at low price and sell them higher, and other experiences. The study of history helps us make money which it undoubtedly relevant to daily life. Other example of the value of history to daily life is to study the history of agriculture surely improves the skills of farming --the daily life of a farmer.

On the other hand, the study of history is also of significant value when it is not obviously relevant to daily life. For instance, the study of the history of earthquake tells us what presage the cataclysm. Although the disasters like big earthquake do not happens every day, but who can deny that this study has great value of every individual and our whole specie. The studies of history of literature and philosophy help us to know what feelings and ideas were like in the past, which also have merely relevance to daily life, but how great their impact on the modern life.

In sum, the study of history has value not only to the extent that it is relevant to daily life. The study of history is a crucial mean to grasp the experience and wisdom of predecessors which help us to spend the daily life happier and give us more enlightenment in other realms of life.
