ISSUE48 - "The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten."

When we open up a history book describing significant events or watch a movie aim at historical events, we find that of most situations, they recording the events based on few individuals and narrowly mention those groups. That's the fact that history emphasis too much on individuals, however, I think those forgotten majority also made the events and trends.

Individuals in the history were usually characterized with strong personality that could represent the spirits and thoughts in the very historical events and trends. Although there maybe a lot of people participating a event or trend, they are various in other characters while one similarity must exist, the spirit, and that is why they took parts in the event or trend. In that case, when we want to study history, we can put most of our attention to those individuals most demonstrate the spirit, mirroring the whole groups or the entire generation. For example, when we review the bloody invasion of Nazi during the World War Two, Hitler should be the first person we care about. His speech, his hatred of Jew and his nonhumanistic massacre plan all present his personality and as the leader of Nazi, his spirit irrigated the whole party, so when we study the military affairs of Nazi we can have a closer look at Hitler instead of numberless privates. In that case, when we study those events and trends, we can focus on individuals most reflecting majority.

However, are there only shining stars in the space of history? Of course not. Those dust, planets and satellites, although relative dim, are also of great magnificent in the space forming the universe, so groups of people who may have been forgotten should pay enough attention to. As we know, some historical events and trends, such as Revolution of Slave, come from the accumulating of discontentment of unequal treatment of slaves, and it is important to understand the situation they come about and why they want to escape after working for owners for tens of years because studying where the events come from usually help understand the original thirst and the development of latter breakout of events, which is as important as those events themselves. Therefore, when we are sighing for the personality of few shining heroes during the revolution, we should also know that it is those unconquerable slaves that brought freedom at last. Therefore, the majority likes the accumulating power in a airtight space, and when it comes to some level, few individuals, as the fuse, explode the whole area.

Studying history should neither ignore the few individuals nor oversee the majority groups. If you losing the individuals in the trends or events, you will find yourself lot in mountains of details because they cannot focus on a point for you to study, where is the few individuals rightly stand. Likewise, if you missing the majority, you might cannot understand the mainstream of events because not all information about the figure can reflect majority, such as Hitler’s lover cannot demonstrate all Nazi’s interest. Balance between them when studying history is thus important for learners.

Sum up, when we read a story about a event or a trend, sighing for the charming personality of some heroes, we should also understand that those majority, although forgotten soon after, also played an important role on historical stage.

Individuals in the history were usually characterized with strong personality that could represent the spirits and thoughts in the very historical events and trends. Although there maybe(may be) a lot of people participating a(an) event or trend, they are various in other characters while one similarity must exist, the spirit, and that is why they took parts in the event or trend. Those dust, planets and satellites, although relative dim, are also of great magnificent in the space forming the universe, so groups of people who may have been forgotten should pay(be paid) enough attention to.(这个理由比较牵强。历史的星空中只有闪亮的星星么?不,。。。也很重要,所以我们也应该足够注意人民群众,整个一句话就没说明为什么重要,只说。。重要,所以。。。重要了,无理由) As we know, some historical events and trends, such as Revolution of Slave, come from the accumulating of discontentment of unequal treatment of slaves, and it is important to understand the situation they come about and why they want to escape after working for owners for tens of years because studying where the events come from usually help understand the original thirst and the development of latter breakout of events, which is as important as those events themselves. Studying history should neither ignore the few individuals nor oversee the majority groups.
