I fundamentally agree with author idea because as long as people in a society are hungry or lack the basic skills to survive, it is inappropriate and even cruel to use the public resource to solve the uncertain problems in the future when one considers all the potential use of these resource.
Solving the immediate problems of today is very important to people in a society, as well as the government whose responsibility is to serve the people.Firstly, the immediate problems today are directly related to people's daily life.For instnce, the violence is widely acknowledged by the public as  the most pressing problem needing to tackle with.A city that wants to persuit the prosperity must offer a harmony and peace environment to those who are living in it and in this way the city will have the ability to attract more investment to stimulate local economy.If a country can't keep order ,and even the people living in it are under the threaten of the violence , the government in this country will be accused sooner or later and the country will be immersed into the abyss of recession at present, let alone in the future.Take the Isralie and Pa conflict for example, if the governments don't focus their attention on dealing with the pressing problems such as the racial conflict and terrorism, the two countried may disappear in the foreseeable future. If a country has no future, what  anticipated problems should the government focus on ?
Today is the basis of tomorrow.If the problems today haven't been solved, in the future we will have to face more problems waiting for us to solve .Also, problems today may cause the futher problems in the future if we don't pay a considerable attention to solving the problems instead of having a illusion that the problems today will disappear by themselves.For example, if the government don't set aside enough funds to establish a advenced public education system and so our next generation has no chance to receive the deserved high-quality education, our children will lack the ability to construct our country when we are old enough to push the development of our country.From the education example, we could see that lacking the attention on our problems today leads to more serious problems tomorrow ,so we should give the problems today priority rather than the anticipated problems of the future.
However, we should also pay some appropriate attention to the problems may occur in the future , in order to attain the sustainable development.After all, the future will always come.
In sum, the government should pay more attention to the immediate problems today and meanwhile should not ignore considering the future problems.
