It is better to have broad knowledge of many academic subjects than specialize in one specific subject

In my opinion, knowledge should be broader or deeper is a case by case problem，which depends on the major subjects , your own ability, and the life style you are in favor of.
I am a undergraduate of Civil Engineering which extremely values the specific knowledge, and the better you learn, the deeper you understand the principle about the structure, the easier and more reliable you can solve the problem which may appear any time during the construction of the buildings. For instance, based on the firm and sturdy knowledge about the mechanics, you can recognize minute inaccuracy in the plan which is inconspicuous but may lead numerous and immeasurable lose. But if you are specialized in English, you may have to learn broader subjects. You may become an interpreter for a masterpiece which may require considerable literature comprehension; you may be a tourist for the foreign guests, which may require a understand about several kinds of cultures. So different majors have different requirements for the structure and contains of the knowledge.
Whether you should learn deeper in just one subject depends on your own talent. It is known to all that many kinds of subjects turns extremely harder than it first seems to be as you learn deeper and deeper, and to get the basic understanding and practice it daily in common life is much easier when compared with the utilize in the specific fields. For instance, we have to purchase every day and when we count we use the superficial knowledge of the math, five add three is eight, which is rather easy to learn and to use. But we also have to use math in some specific fields such as the computer programming, which has such a thorough and deeper requirement for the manipulation and control of the numbers. A lot of people may not be able to understand the complex and sophisticated principles and have no way but to give up the study of them.
If you want a life that is highly specialized you can always earn a considerable salary but constrained with high responsibility which may be really pressure, you may really try hard to study as deep as you can to be more professional ,you do not have to advert your attention to other aspects. If you just hope for a life which full of excitement and challenge, you may be in favor of getting to know every thing including the different languages, different cultures, and different recreational activities, a boarder knowledge may be more reality and suitable.
