6、the most effective way to understand contemporary culture is to analyze the trends of its youth.

Culture is an subject that combined with all periods of people, no matter he or she is old or young, adults or teenagers. Youth is a very important part to form the culture and lead it to the future characteristic , however, it is hasty and arbitrary to say that it is most effective for us to understand the contemporary culture by analyze the trends of the youth.

As we know, youth is a group characterized with ambitious, energetic, self-determination and most of all, pursue fashionable. However, culture is characterized as stable, perpetuate, and conservative, which means it is hard to change or creat a culture without years of profound influence. In contrast of the two kinds of characters, it is clear that by analyze the fashionable and changeable trends of the youth, we can not accurately recognize our culture. For instance, the youth of the 60s is a considered as "the hopelessness" because their sexual open, drugs taking and the idea of “enjoy today, do not care about the future “in America. However, we can not say that the culture of the 60s is hopeless in judging of the youth's behaviors though it has been influenced a lot. Another example is the fanatic attention to the stars today. Youth are bolstering their favorite stars, listening to their songs, buying their CDs and by-products, imitating their behaviors and even fighting for their words, which has caused a lot of problems whereas the culture is calm in contrast with the folie of the fans. We considered Lincoln and Martin Luther King as heroes while do not put an film star who has acted a hero in a film on the same stage. We read the Little Woman and Gone with The Wind time and again while do not give a peer to the movie we have already seen.

Rather than the youth ,adults has more influences on the culture and in my opinion, the analysis of the adults' trends is much more effective, for we can not deny that the adults create majority of the contemporary social value which influences the culture most. Without the hard working of adults, we will not develop in every aspect. For example, I still remember the book, Meet on Tuesday, which is 44 weeks' top 1 in readers' responses. With the spirits of love, patience, hope, the attitude of life and at last, the death, it has influenced numerous people around the world. This book irrigated our self-centered, jealous, aimless heart desert with water and teaches us what is the true love and true life. It calls on people to love their relatives and irrelatives, to face the death with more positive attitudes, which makes the effort to change the culture nowadays.

In sum, youth are the premature ones with changeable minds and adults are the base of the culture and the people who create the social value, which draws to the conclusion that it is much more effective to analyze the adults rather than the youth to study the culture nowadays.

拍我啊，拍我啊，眼看都掉到后面去了，自顶一下。
昨天在网上和G友讨论这篇文章，发现在第二段的关于流行追星的例子上出了些分歧，然后深入下去，发现主要还是提纲上把握不稳，用我写的时候的话说，怎一个偏题了得。
在QQ上，G友帮我整理了一下思路：
1,青年人不稳定(追星)
2.青年人的文化只是一种表象(60s),虽然有时候违背,但是总的还要考验（青年人的文化只是一种表象，这种表象在未经过考验之前都不能算是当代文化，只是当代流行。
）
3.成年人的文化比较稳定,另外成年人对青年人的指导和教育决定了文化的走向?

感谢archerwzy ，另外，把这个贴上来也希望大家一起来讨论一下，就把我的文当作反面教材吧，狠狠的讨论吧

60s的青年人在美国可是非常突出的一代啊，个人非常欣赏。60年代的美国也发生了很多事情，肯尼迪遇刺，登月，越战尾期等等，那个年代的青年人的表现，不正反应了那个时代文化的骚动和混乱嘛？
追星就总体而言就是一种文化。我们时常说香港是文化沙漠，但文化沙漠本身也是一种文化的特徽吧。

Position:  Admittedly contemprory culture is dominated by youth culture.  But we should not ignore the continuity of youth culture---any culture (including youth culture) has some connections with tradition and will inevitably influence future cultrues to some extent.

(1)First, we have to admit that contemprary culture is dominated by youth culture.  

(2)Yet in order to better understand a culture,  we should not ignore the continuity of any given  culture.  Take pop music as an example.  It is always changing.

(3)Last but not least , we should know that to understand a culture we need not only analyze but also  determination , tolerance, and patience , to some degree. For example,  If you are a very old man wanting to understand the youth culture of pop music, you had better listen to that kinds of song.  Vise versa.

To sharonhy ：我的理解是一个新生事物，如果在很快的时间内席卷，并长盛不衰，就是通过考验成为了一种文化，但如果很快淡出舞台，则只算得上是一种流行。在我看来，文化有一种稳定性和一种传承性，所以把这个理解和当代文化联系起来就出现了一些问题。我昨天就是在这个问题上和archerwzy讨论了半天，对于contemporary 的时间限定,真的很难说。字典上是current，那么比如牛仔裤文化，刚出来的时候只算是流行，在十多年甚至风行之后慢慢积淀成为了一种文化，但是，十多年或几十年的时间不算短，对于牛仔裤刚出来时的那一代人来说，它还算当代文化吗？想得我头都痛了。
      至于追星，我当时之所以觉得这是一种流行，主要是因为它缺乏文化的恒定和传承，明星总是昙花一现；同时也缺乏文化的内涵，所以才把电影和名著、电影人物和英雄相比。不过，汗，我现在自己都不确定了，这个例子的争议性太大。确实不太好。
