------题目------
The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten.
------正文------
The speaker argues that the study of history pays much more attention on individuals and he or she also think that groups of people are the real maker of the history, especially the vital events, but not the famous few. In my point of view, I concede that most historians really place too much emphasis on the figures who were famous in history. However, the most significant events and trends of the past were made possible by the famous figures, while the common people are just their proponents.
At the first place, historians always study the famous few of a certain era for understanding the constitutions, culture and ideas of that society. It is the glorious lives of the famous celebrities that always attract the historians' eyes. Most of the famous few are the heroes of the human beings who deal most significant events in history, such as George Washington in War of Independence and Lincoln in Civil War. They are the famous few in such significant events and always are representative examples of the leaders in these two famous wars. From studying their events and trends, historians can tell us something about our society at that time. Imagine, take someone commonly live at that time, did he or she can be representative of the society and reflect some important message of the important event at that time? Therefore, historians take this famous few and place much emphasis on them to learn the past. It is a correct approach to learn the history, which can help us to understand the people and the rule of that society.
Moreover, the limited of the history study is always the quantity and quality of documents and artifacts left by the people of the past, especially the context of the common people. However, in history, compare with the lack of documents and artifacts of the common groups of people, the famous always left more contexts and other artifacts. Therefore, historians pay much more their attention on the celebrities of the past and consider for searching new discoveries of the past. For example, there may be thousands of people involved in a movement of a revolution in an era and historians cannot study every common people and there may also lack of documents of the common people. However, there are always some materials left about the leaders of the movement and that can be the useful materials for historians to learn the movement and even the whole situation in the society at that time. Therefore, historians should pay more attention on the famous few.
Admittedly, placing much emphasis on the famous few not means that ignoring or even denying the common people in the position of creating the history. Let's take Washington and Lincoln again. If there were no other common people such as soldiers and officer to help them completed the targets, how could they won in the wars and made a new history at last? Therefore, we should not ignore or even deny the role of the groups people play in the most significant events in history.
To sum up, study history should pay more attention on the famous figures who play vital roles in the important events and trends in history. And we can learn the trace of the famous few and further to get the information about the whole society of the past. That can be helpful for us human beings dealing with things in the contemporary events and anticipate the evolutions of our society. However, we should always never ignore those common people who had been always involving in the events of the world. (604)
