I partly agree with the speaker that in some fields such as social revolution, the masses indeed play an crucial role in the history. Whereas, in my opinions [opinion], to state [觉得to state去掉比较好^^] whether most of important events and trends in history are produced by the crowd needs a case by case [case-by-case] analysis. Moreover, I disagree with the speaker [speaker?看你后面的定语从句应该是speaker's claim吧?:p] that we have placed too much stress on the famous few, for the reason that giving much thought on [to,固定搭配哦] individuals is beneficial to both historians and students to learn history.
To begin with, in the fields of science and art, almost all the achievements and progress are created by individuals, In other words, the multitude, in most cases, had never exert [exerted] important influence on the advancement. Moreover, at the risk of sounding cold [souding?探通术??being surrounded cold?], the crowd sometimes performed as an obstacle of the history. An apt illustration is about Galileo. When almost everybody of the time believe [believed] in the Aristotle's prevailed rule that the heavies a substance is, the more acceleration it has, it is Galileo who conducted the famous experiment of Pisa and challenge this accepted rule. Hence lay a foundation to Newton's great [似乎少了一个noun, theory?:p]"The first law of motion". The same is true of art[Again, there are parallels with art,最近刚学会的一个句型,呵呵], it is Beethoven who marked the culmination of great classical models of Haydn and Mozart and then exceeded to create his own methods for elaboration of music which influence [has influenced] large numbers of later musicians. To put it briefly, it is some key individuals who produce the history of science and art.
Nonetheless, when it comes to social evolution, one must concede that the faceless groups of people have a prominent effect on the advancement of history. Firstly, no matter how great an individual is, he or she must depend on social conditions and multitude to achieve success. To better understanding this statement, on need only [似乎only need好点] look at the Civil War. Albeit some people will attribute the success of the war to Lincoln's strong will to free the slavery and his endeavor for this goal, no one could deny that it is based on the thousands of slavery [slaves, slavery是指奴隶制、奴隶身份] and their own unyielding struggle that Lincoln win the war and become one of hero. Secondly, as famous as Lincoln, one is born with any great ideas. In other words, one's thought is shaped by the objective circumstances around him or her. In this sense, it is the slavery's will for freedom provided Lincoln with the motivation of the war. In short, I concede that the masses do exert [可以用produce, exert 、have 都用过了^^] a profound influence on the history of social progress.[你这里想说的是客观条件的促进作用吧,不过感觉相比前两段的精彩,这里说得还不太清楚]
[分领域讨论,思路清晰:)]
In spite of whether it is the individuals create the history of the world, it is beneficial to study history by observing these "heroes". The chief reason is that placing more stress on the famous few rather than the multitude is convenient for both historians and students. In one sense, it is not practicable for historians to investigate the history by a host of unidentified people. Thus, by researching on a few leaders of the history, researcher can obtain the information they desire [desired information] more easily and quickly. In another sense, it is useful and helpful for students to learn history by analyzing the heroes, for the reason that bearing in mind the key individuals of these events is a efficient way to remembering the history events. Moreover, by studying the lives of these "heroes", we can learn quite a lot merits and virtues from them. Simply put, merely for the purpose of studying history, one should keep eyes on the great individuals.
In last analysis, whether the great individuals or the nameless groups of people go a long way towards to history progress depend [depends] on the fields concerned. And when it comes to history study, it might be wise to advise on [去掉on] the assertion that we should place much more emphasis on the famous few.
