1)个人都有一种需要，要将自己和其他人区别开。作为国家的member，个人也需要和其他国家的member区别开。这其中，文化就发挥重要的作用：包括历史、文字、语言、仪式Rituals and ceremonies。
2)缺少本国native/indigenous文化的支撑，人们就很容易被其他民族同化，忘掉历史，缺少国家的认同感和责任感。
3)当然，一些没有意义的Rituals and ceremonies没有必要固守，需要扬弃。


The author claims that societies and groups of people have a diminished sense of who they are if they without rituals and ceremonies.In my point of view,I am inclined to support the idea that rituals and ceremonies can help define a culture and I will substantiate as the following discussions.

In the first place,everybody,as a member of a country,has a need that can distinguish himself to other people--especially to people which from other countries.But how can they differentiate?By using language,music,arts,or ceremonies and so on,and all of these are culture in which play a very important role. Although there are many aspects of culture,we only talk about rituals and ceremonies now.As far as we know.ceremony and rituals are  intuitionistic mannners of distinguishing the culture of different regions.For example,in China,people are used to fire firecrackers in every festivals in order to express the feelings of pleasure,excitement and concord,this ceremony is different with the ceremonies of other countries because of they have different histories.After inventing the powder many yeas ago,chinese people are like to show their joys, not only in great festivals but also in personal paties,through this quomodo--maybe they also express their appreciations to God at the same time.So we can say that ceremony is a powerful manner to secern people.

In the second place,it is a inevitable fact that people can easily assimilated by  cultures of other nations and even forget their histories if without abstainments of native cultures.Because not being familiar with their native cultures any more and receiving other cultures,they ,undoubtablely,will forget their cultures drastically.It is so danger and horrible that the cultures of a country are invaded by other cultures which come from other countries--maybe your adverse country.In China now,many  youths are eyeless to adore other countries' ceremonies and cultures that they even donot understand what these ceremonies mean and just imitate it,I think it is not a right treatment or even a profanity to these cultures because of these ceremonies and cultures are all came down by  native people and before we realize it we had better not to imitate optionaly,and the most important is when we have received other cultures,we cannot forget our native cultures and must consolidate it.

Admittedly,not all ceremonies and rituals need us to be accepted,.To some ceremonies,especially fatuous and unscientific,we should not only conform them,but also discard them and not utilize the any more.For example,many illed people donot see a doctor but use some fatuous ceremonies so as to recover,is it possible to heal illness?Certainly not.In china,there is a fatuous Ritual that if you hate somebody and want to hurt him,you need not do anything just prepare a doll.In their opinions,they regard the doll as you and read some curse on it so that when they stab the doll by needle in somewhere,you can feel achy whereever you are.These ceremonies are unscientific,and we incontestablely refuse to accept it.

In sum,from what has been discussed above,we may finally draw the conclusion that most cultures such as rituals and  ceremonies are helpful to people,we may try to understand and accept them of course the precondition is that we must not forget our good cultures,in addition,we have to discard some Rituals and unscientific ceremonies.If we to do so,whatever to people,society or cultures,are all benificial.
