、"It is often necessary, even desirable, for political leaders to withhold information from the public." 政治领导人在公众面前有所保留通常是必要的,甚至是有益的。(习作3)
Whether it is necessary ,even desirable for political leaders to withhold information from the public is a complex issue-one that is fraught with democracy, justice and social stability. At some point, I agree with the speaker’s assertation that preventing the public from the truth which political leaders have been using insofar in order to benefit the whole society is required and indispensable. However,I think as the public’s servants and representatives, political leaders should not hiding(hide) all the details from citizenry especially the information relates to their personal interests, otherwise, such behavior in any modern society would betry democracy, forfeit justice and undermine social stability.
To begin with, the supreme duty of political leaders is to faciliate the whole country(这句话太笼统了吧?facilitate具体哪方面).If the political leaders fully disclosing to the public all types of information ,sometimes it can lead the public into a bedlam and out of control which will greatly disturb the society’s normal order and development, even threaten public safety and perhaps even national security when it is serious enough. So keeping certain information far from the public as a confidential information will do a great deal to the leader, the citizenry and the society at last. To illustrate this point clealy, consider the“war” against the fiendish and endemic(epidemic?) disease- SARS in China. When this particular unknown virus, SARS, made a surprise attack on Guangzhou in December 2002, the Chinese government leaders choosed withholding most of negative influences of the deadly epidemic from the public in order not to distract people from daily work and life, but when the disease out of controls and began spreading nation-widely(nation-wide)in several months, Chinese government immediately rendered many transparent informations about the epidemic, such as pathological knowlegdes, prevention methods, and advisory measures, confidently extirpated the aftermath and greatly maintained the society stability.这段好像与分论点无关
Additionally,it is hard for people to reach a congruent conclusion about certain issues and then take action especially in those circumstances that (where)quick decision is required. When there are one thousand persons, there will be one thousand different opinions. Considering that political information is often looking forward to emergent decisions, it is obviously impossible that a sound decision meeting most of the public’s point of view will be achieved before actions are to be taken. In such cases, withholding information from the public and making resolute decisions are doubtlessly more proper than to expect a congruent view by conducting a poll. For example, my motherland China, recently has more than 0.6 billion illiterates with a population up to 1.4 billion who are even unable to write their names. Is it sagacious to order them to express their opinions on certain national issues like a professor equally?
However, public have rights to know what is happening and reject those decisions which may do potential damage to their lives.Politicians should bear this in mind that they can never conceal anything to public, which will certainly lead to monopoly(autocracy似乎更好一些吧). What even worse, withholding information from the public will result in corruption in the government, and therefore bring detriment to society. British historian Lord Acton once said, " ower tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." For supporting examples one need look no further than the Clinton-Gore fundraising scandals, though he is a competent president anyway, the scandal when exposed to the public aroused a vigorously denounce to himself and evoked a renewed discussion for compaign-finance reform in public. In short, every good political leader should has(have) a sense of responsability of the country and the citizenry. Undeniable, it is people's civil rights to know what is going on around them.(这段写的不错,层层递进,cogent)To sum up, on the behalf of the masses and the whole society, it require that 删our political leaders to withhold information from the public for special purpose. In other cases, however, I concede that political leaders should keep their political affairs open to the supervision of their citizens for democracy, justice and social stability.全文好像没有体现出来 Moreover, every political leaders should remember the epitom left by the great Greek philosopher Aristotle:”Statemen,if try to efface the uneven land and said this is a plain, his political life will face the end.” (674)
