In this times that science and technology lead everyday progress of the whole society, education takes the most significant mission of human culture to train the coming generation prepared to rise to the technological and moral challenge of the new century. As the education resources is in fact insufficient for the increasing population and unbalanced distributed in a global perspective, how to use these limited resources effectively is worth discussing.

Firstly, concerning about the real purpose of education, which is to develop human society and raise the life level of the future, it should be designed to satisfy the social benefits, instead of being designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student. Every year government collects taxes from civilian and devotes billions of dollars to education and science research to explore the better way of the whole society. Hardly would it be to imagine all the contribution we paid drain to meet someone’s individual interest which is insignificant or even harm the society. Rather than design our education to meet the interests, educators had better lead the students mind before they have been sharpen into a particular form, when young boys interest in weapon models and girls prefer dolls. After all, it is absolutely more acceptable to transmit moral, ethic and responsibility than to force student to work on those subjects they are totally tired of.

Without appropriate instruction, while contradict with the social profit, individual interest may become some kind of scientific and ethical disaster. For instance, clone technology is seriously confined to use in human beings in gene biology field, although many students and even professors place ardent enthusiasm on it. Whatever else may be said, most people would agree that any careless abandonment of the restriction would cause uncontrollable ethical mess of the society.

On the other hand, it is undeniable that most scientific achievements would not come out without individual interests. It will be benefit that effective education provides more space for students who has already well prepared with enough basic knowledge. Too much restriction may bury genius who is not compatible with the limited education. Luckily Thomas Edison who was considered “stupid” student eventually become the most glorious inventor in history, and Bill Gates’s dropout from Harvard finally made him the leader of the greatest software company, as the same time, the top of wealthy. But it is impossible to investigate any statistic data of how many potential geniuses was suppressed in schools or colleges.

Simply put, if educator balances the social needs and individual interests, they should keep a developing view and a tolerant attitude to discover the potential benefits of society and geniuses who are waiting for a chance to develop their gifts.

In conclusion, an truly effective education should be designed not only to meet the needs of the whole society, which assure the next generation to take responsibility of inherit culture and morality, as while as warrant sufficient investment for education, but also to instruct and satisfy the individual interest so that to dig out more potential genius and capability, and eventually those achievement would devote great benefits to our society.
