In any realm of life—whether academic, social, business, or political—the only way to succeed is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view. Pragmatic behavior guarantees survival, whereas idealistic views tend to be superseded by simpler, more immediate options.

Although practical views guarantees the survival in our society, the idealistic ones ensure us a better life, as demonstrated in the any realm of life--whether academic, social, business, or political.

In the domain of academy, idealism should always take precedence over the practicism. For the function of science and any research is to explore the unknown and the objective facts will never cater to our expectation or desires. If the practicism dominates the process of research, we risk undermining the disinterest of science. In that matter, by distorting the results of their research, the scientist might pander to the need of business advertising to get more financial aid, which seems to be absolutely practical. Obviously, by allowing such behavior, we sacrifice the future of human beings and make nature of curiosity give way to the greed.

The rationale also applies to social realm. Bothered by myriad simple immediate options, we are driven to make premature and even harmful decisions. The practicism, which ensures the survival of human beings, will also pull us in trouble in the long run. One telling example is the increasingly pressing problems of our environment--such as global warming, deforestation, and ozone depletion. Such disastrous results are just rooted in the myopia of our human. Only idealism can prevent us from us from being driven by immediate need and then strike a balance between survival and sustainable development.

In the political field, the case seems to be different, after all the immediate goal of political game is to win the election or reelection, which is not idealistic at all. To realize the goal, it is even necessary to pander to the desire of the electorate--a simple rule for any politician who would like to be in office. However the strategy can be adopted by the ineffective politician and demagogue. Consider the example of Martin Luther King or Gandhi, Had not their ideal effort fight for the freedom and equality, India today would be still the colony of Britain and American Blacks would be still regulated in the back of buses.

When it comes to the field of business, which emphasize to get the job down, the practicism appears to be dominant. The practical view, however, as the speaker claims, can only guarantee the survival of a company instead of thrive. Although the reputed ultimate goal for executives is to maximize the profit, only by some effort that may establish the reputation of the business rather than myopia of immediate options can a firm accomplish its ultimate goal in the long run. That is to profit, the firm must pay attention to the social interest rather than only focus on that of itself.

In the final analysis, I concede that practicism ensure our survival today, however only being driven by immediate option and need amounts to myopia that risk the future of the human being. To thrive rather than only survival, we need ideal individuals, whether academic, social, business, or political domain.

那天看的时候还没写,所以没改。今天上午正好写了，看到你还在顶呢，来看一看吧。
今天限时写了一下，前面写得太长，第三段草草收场了，似乎确实有问题，还要请教呢，是不是各个分论点应该差不多长呢？看看你的吧。
另外还有个用词的问题：到底是用practicism还是用 pragmatism?
查了一下金山，似乎是practicism (只知埋头工作而不明确工作意义的)务实主义，用在这里是不是不太恰当呢？
